In-situ Vibration Measurements of the Ctf2 Quadrupoles

چکیده
The Compact LInear Collider (CLIC), presently under study at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), aims at colliding high-energy “nanobeams” at a luminosity of 10 cm−2s−1. Vibrations of the lattice elements, if not properly corrected, can result in a loss in performance by creating both unacceptable emittance growth in the linear accelerator and relative beam-beam offsets at the interaction point. Of particular concern are the vibrations induced by the accelerator environment. For example, the circulating water used to cool the lattice quadrupoles will increase magnet vibration levels. In the framework of the CLIC stability study, in-situ measurements of quadrupole vibrations have been performed at the CLIC Test Facility 2 (CTF2) with all accelerator equipment switched on. Since the CTF2 quadrupoles and their alignment support structures are realistic prototypes of those to be used in the CLIC linac, the measurements provide a realistic estimate of the CLIC magnet vibrations in a realistic accelerator working environment.

Induced Beam Oscillations from Quadrupole Vibrations in the SLC Linac
Linac beams in the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC) were driven into oscillation by transverse vibration of lattice quadrupoles at about 7 Hz. These quadrupoles are centered on 12-meter support girders located early in the linac. The vibrations were caused by ground motion at the 0.06 l.tm level which was amplified in the accelerator supports up to 5 pm. Seismic and support vibration measurements...
متن کاملEffect of Cooling Water on Stability of NLC Linac Components
Vertical vibration of linac components (accelerating structures, girders and quadrupoles) in the NLC has been studied experimentally and analytically. Effects such as structural resonances and vibration caused by cooling water both in accelerating structures and quadrupoles have been considered. Experimental data has been compared with analytical predictions and simulations using ANSYS. A desig...

متن کاملVibration Studies of the Stanford Linear Accelerator†
Vibration measurements of the linear accelerator structures in the SLC linac show a 1 micron rms vertical motion. This motion reduces to 0.2 micron rms motion when the cooling water to the accelerator structures is turned off. The quadrupoles have 250 nanometer rms vertical motion with the accelerator structure cooling water on and 60 nanometer motion with it off. These results together with me...
