Retrieving Aerosol Properties and Land Surface Reflectance over the Sahel from Aatsr Observations

چکیده
Atmospheric aerosol properties and land surface reflectance can be retrieved from dual-angle AATSR measurements. In this paper a map of aerosol optical depth at 550 nm covering the Sahel and Southern Sahara region is presented. The map is a composite of thirtytwo 500 km wide AATSR strip-lines acquired throughout March 2003. Verification is performed using the MODIS and MISR global aerosol products. In addition, retrieved AATSR bi-directional reflectance for a number of sites around the world are compared with surface reflectance calculated from the MODIS Albedo/BRDF product. Results show high correlation between the two instruments’ estimate of surface reflectance.

Operational Aerosol Optical Mapping from Remotely-sensed Data over Land Surface in China
The atmosphere contains solid and liquid particles (aerosols) and clouds, which interact with the incoming and outgoing radiation in a complex and spatially very variable manner. Aerosol particles are a largely natural, though highly variable, component of our atmosphere. Aerosols affect our environment at the local, regional, and global levels. There are many factors that are known to influenc...

This paper presents a new method for simultaneously retrieving aerosol and surface reflectance properties from combined airborne and ground-based direct and diffuse radiometric measurements. The method is based on the standard Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) method for retrieving aerosol size distribution, complex index of refraction, and single scattering albedo, but modified to retrieve aer...
متن کاملRetrieval of Aerosol Optical Thickness Using MODIS 500 × 500 m, a Study in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta Region
Aerosol detection and monitoring by satellite observations has been substantially developed over the past decades. While several state-of-the-art aerosol retrieval techniques provide aerosol properties at global scale, high spatial detail that is suitable for urbanized regions is unavailable because most of the satellite-based products are at coarse resolution. A refined aerosol retrieval algor...

Aerosol detection and monitoring by satellite observations has been substantially developed over past decades. While several state-of-art aerosol retrieval techniques provide aerosol properties in global scale, the more detail characteristics remain unknown because most of the satellite sensors are limited to 1km resolution observations. However, a new aerosol retrieval algorithm for the Modera...

[1] Using internally consistent albedo, aerosol, cloud, and surface data from the Multiangle Imaging Spectroradiometer (MISR) instrument onboard the Terra satellite, top-of-atmosphere (TOA) spectral albedo change (da) in the presence of aerosols over land is estimated and its dependence on aerosol and surface properties is analyzed. Linear regressions between spectral TOA albedo and aerosol opt...
