The effect of mini-dose suxamethonium to facilitate laryngeal mask airway insertion under propofol anaesthesia

چکیده
Objective To asses effects of mini dose suxamethonium to facilitate laryngeal mask airway (LMA) insertion and its post operative complications. Patients and Methods Sixty ASA 1 and 2 patients aged 15-55 years who were scheduled for various surgical procedures were divided in two groups. Thirty patients received propofol (control group) and thirty received suxamethonium 0.1 mg\kg as a single bolus dose (study group). Total dose of propofol, fasciculations, apnea, conditions during LMA insertion and hemodynamic changes were recorded. Results LMA insertion was easy with lesser swallowing, gagging or coughing in group B. Less amount of propofol was required in group B, hence reduced side effects of propofol were observed in this group. Myalgia was present in 10% patients given suxamethonium. Conclusion The combination of propofol with mini dose suxamethonium provided a significantly better and economical method for LMA insertion. (Rawal Med J 2010;35: ).

A Comparison of Midazolam and Mini-Dose Succinylcholine to Aid Laryngeal Mask Airway Insertion During Propofol Anaesthesia
The laryngeal mask airway (LMA) is an ingenious supraglottic airway device that is designed to provide and maintain a seal around the laryngeal inlet for spontaneous ventilation and allow controlled ventilation at modest level of positive pressure [1]. Successful insertion of LMA requires sufficient depth of anaesthesia and depression of airway reflexes to avoid gagging, coughing and laryngeal ...

متن کاملDose of propofol for laryngeal mask airway insertion in children: effect of premedication with midazolam.
We determined the dose-response curves and effective doses of propofol for insertion of the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) in 50 unpremedicated children and in 60 children premedicated with midazolam, aged 3-12 yr. One of several doses of propofol was administered i.v. over 15 s to groups of 10 children, and conditions for LMA insertion were assessed at 60 s. The dose-response curves were parallel...
متن کاملHaemodynamic and electroencephalographic response to insertion of a cuffed oropharyngeal airway: comparison with the laryngeal mask airway.
We have compared the cuffed oropharyngeal airway (COPA), a modified Guedel airway device with a specially designed cuff at its distal end, with the laryngeal mask airway (LMA), on haemodynamic and electroencephalographic (EEG) responses to insertion. In addition, we examined the haemodynamic and EEG changes during initiation of the effect-compartment controlled infusion. We studied 35 female pa...
متن کاملA Comparative Study for Ease of Insertion of Laryngeal Mask Airway with Propofol and Thiopentone Sodium
Background: The laryngeal mask airway (LMA) is a new form of airway which is introduced blindly into the hypo pharynx to form a seal around the larynx. Insertion of this LMA requires an adequate depth of anaesthesia, as the device is bulky and cannot be inserted unless jaw and pharynx are fully relaxed. The choice of the intravenous induction agent will influence the intubating conditions depen...
