چکیده

A. Abstract In 1995, an improvement project was completed on the 244 klystron modulators in the linear accelerator. The modulator system has been previously described [ 11. This article offers project details and their resulting effect on modulator and component reliability. Prior to the project, we had collected four operating cycles (1991 through 1995) of MTTF data [2]. In this discussion, the '91 data will be excluded since the modulators operated at 60 Hz. The five periods following the '91 run were reviewed due to the common repetition rate at 120 Hz. B. Introduction The project objective aimed at improving modulator reliability and increasing mean time to faihue (MTTF) for specific components through the replacement of the old tbyratron trigger chassis and the installation of a hybrid anode reactor 131. MTTF data from '92 arxl '93, considered as " base " data, will be compared with data from '96 and '97/8, or accelerator runs after the improvement completion. These periods am based on the SLCXSLD experimental program because operation was especially critical and mquimd a high degtee of stability from every station: The 199415 accelerator mn was the period when the thyratron trigger improvement project was partially accomplished. Hence, a transitional offset appears in the '94/5 MTTF data.

A bsnact A discussion of the operation and reliability of the 244 modulators in the SLAC linac with an emphasis on the past three years of operation. The linac modulators-were desi ned and built in the 60's, upgraded f for the SLAC Linear Collider (S C) in the mid 8Os, and despite their age are still reliable accelerator components. The 60s modulator qpcrated at 65 MW peak and 83 kW average pow...

Redesign of the H-brdige Switch Plate of the Sns High Voltage Converter Modulator*

The 1-MW High Voltage Converter Modulators [1] have operated in excess of 250,000 hours at the Spallation Neutron Source. Increased demands on the accelerator performance require increased modulator reliability. An effort is underway at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory to redesign the modulator H-bridge switch plate with the goals of increasing reliability and performance [2]. The major dif...

Design of the Second-generation Ilc Marx Modulator*

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC) has initiated a program to design and build a Marx-topology modulator to produce a relatively compact, low-cost, high availability klystron modulator for the International Linear Collider (ILC). Building upon the success of the P1 Marx, the SLAC P2 Marx is a second-generation modulator whose design further emphasizes the qualities of modularity and hi...

Design Optimization and Construction of the Thyratron/pfn Based Cost Model Modulator for the Nlc*

As design studies and various R&D efforts continue on Next Linear Collider (NLC) systems, much R&D work is being done on X-Band klystron development, and development of pulse modulators to drive these X-Band klystrons. A workshop on this subject was held at SLAC in June of 1998, and a follow-up workshop is scheduled at SLAC June 23-25, 1999. At the 1998 workshop, several avenues of R&D were pro...

Preliminary Design of Spacecraft Attitude Control with Pulse-Width Pulse-Frequency Modulator for Rest-to-Rest Maneuvers

In this paper, the preferred region of design parameters for quasi-normalized equations of single-axis attitude control of rigid spacecraft using pulse-width pulse-frequency modulator (PWPFM) is presented for rest-to-rest maneuvers. Using the quasi-normalized equations for attitude control reduces the system parameters, that is, the moment of inertia, the filter gain, and the maximum torque of ...
