Analysis of Drumbeats – Interaction between Drummer, Drumstick and Instrument
نویسنده
چکیده
This thesis investigates the moment, when the drumstick hits the membrane of a drum. Experiments were conducted to obtain information about the interaction of drummer, drumstick and membrane during a single stroke. Using a modified drumstick, the force on the drumstick, the acceleration of the stick’s tip, the duration of the contact between stick and membrane and the sound of the drum were recorded. Strokes were performed at different dynamic levels, at different positions on the drumhead and for different drumhead tensions. Furthermore, possible influences of the drumstick model and the drummer were analyzed briefly. During the 3–6ms of contact between drumstick and membrane, the interaction process was found to be influenced by the deflection of the drumhead, the vibration of the drumstick and a traveling wave on the drumhead. Altering the different parameters of the experiment, provided an insight into the influence of each interacting component on the process of striking the drum.

A Physically Intuitive Haptic Drumstick
We motivate and discuss the design of a physically intuitive haptic drumstick. A new musical instrument is physically intuitive if the physics of haptic interaction are similar to those supported by a traditional musical instrument. We suggest that physically intuitive new musical instruments may help performers transfer motor skills from familiar, traditional musical instruments. Both actively...
متن کاملAnalysis of upper arm muscle activation using surface electromyography signals during drum playing
This study measured surface electromyography of the biceps brachii and triceps brachii during repeated drum playing with and without a drumstick to better understand activation of the upper arm muscles and inform the use of instrument playing for motor rehabilitation. A total of 40 healthy college students participated in this study. All participants were asked to strike a drum with their hand ...
متن کاملTedStick: A Tangible Electrophonic Drumstick
TedStick is a new wireless musical instrument that processes acoustic sounds resonating within its wooden body and manipulates them via gestural movements. The sounds are transduced by a piezoelectric sensor inside the wooden body, so any tactile contact with TedStick is transmitted as audio and further processed by a computer. The main method for performing with TedStick focuses on extracting ...
متن کاملThe relationship between Interaction Types and Language Learning Styles
Language learning styles are among the main factors that help determine how –and how well–our students learn a second or foreign language. In the traditional classroom, the primarymode of interaction was face-to-face dialogue between the teacher and the student. This studypresents an analysis of the types of interaction in Jahad-e-Daneshgahi Institute, among 45EFL students in Miyaneh city, and ...
متن کاملA Virtual Dancer "Cindy" --- Interactive Performance of a Music-controlled CG Dancer ---
Various lifelike computer characters have been proposed in recent years [LCC’94, LCC’95]. In this paper, we introduce an innovative way of using a lifelike computer character to enhance the human-human and human-computer communication. We propose an interactive performance system in which a virtual CG dancer enables two players (musicians) to interact with each other not only through music but ...
