Control Strategies for Treating Toxic Wastewater Using Bioreactors
نویسندگان
چکیده
Different control strategies are compared, in regard to issues associated to biomass inhibition when treating toxic wastewater, to operate sequencing batch bioreactors. In particular the problem of time optimal operation and also the problem of handling sudden unknown toxicant peak concentrations are addressed. Because of the application characteristics it is not feasible, nowadays, to measure all of the important variables, thus little information is available online for controlling the process. One of the alternatives presented, the Event-Driven Time Optimal Control, offers to solve all problems, using only the practically available variables, even if uncertainties are present in the mathematical model of the bioreactor. Time-Optimal Output Feedback Controller for Toxic Wastewater Treatment in a Fed-Batch Bioreactor
Aerobic processes using sequencing fed-batch bioreactors are an effective technology to treat wastewater with toxic compounds. In order to implement optimal control schemes it is convenient to assess the biodegradation rate on-line. In this work, the dissolved oxygen concentration is used as output variable from the process to estimate this rate using a robust observer based on the generalized ...
متن کاملRecent Developments in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Using Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactor: A Review
This review summarizes progresses in research on municipal wastewater treatment using anaerobic membrane bioreactors (AnMBR). At first, the AnMBR process options including membrane configuration and mean pore size or type are introduced. Next, many factors affect AnMBR performance in treating municipal wastewater, so this paper mainly focuses on the membrane characteristics, temperature, hydrau...
متن کاملInfluence of the Applied Organic Load (olr) on Textile Wastewater Treatment Using Submerged Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactors (sambr) in the Presence of Redox Mediator and Powdered Activated Carbon (pac)
This paper evaluated the treatment of textile wastewater in submerged anaerobic membrane bioreactors (SAMBR) operated on a bench scale. Particularly, the influence of operational conditions, such as the applied organic rate (OLR) and the dilution factor (for toxicity attenuation) of the textile wastewater, was evaluated on color and organic matter removal. In addition, the effect of powdered ac...
متن کاملMembrane Bioreactors in the Treatment of Wastewater Generated from Agricultural Industries and Activities
Membrane Bioreactors (MBRs) can be broadly defined as systems integrating biological degradation of waste products with membrane filtration. They have proven quite effective in removing organic and inorganic contaminants as well as biological entities from wastewater. Advantages of the MBR include good control of biological activity, high quality effluent free of bacteria and pathogens, smaller...
متن کاملon anaerobic – aerobic treatment of industrial and municipal wastewater
Anaerobic–aerobic systems have been remarkably employed in industrial and municipal wastewater treatment for many years. While previously most treatment of wastewaters have been carried out in conventional anaerobic–aerobic treatment plants, in recent years, high rate anaerobic–aerobic bioreactors have been increasingly employed for wastewaters with high chemical oxygen demand (COD). This paper...
