Epidemic Intermittent Fever in the Mauritius

fever had been registered in the Military Hospitals between the years 1823 and 1858. In the Civil Hospital for four years prior to 1866, (including all classes of the community,) only 85 cases of paludal fever had occurred j whereas in the same hospitals during the eighteen months ending June 1867, no less than 2,576 patients were under treatment suffering from intermittent fever ; and within this same period 31,920 deaths occurred from this disease among the inhabitants of the Mauritius ; subsequently to 1867 the fever subsided, and in 1870 had almost disappeared. The progress of the disease was very remarkable, and in its history was analogous to the epidemio fever of Lower Bengal.
