چکیده
Introduction: Drug-induced gingival overgrowth (DIGO) remains a significant problem for the dental clinicians and the periodontologists. Patients medicated with certain drugs may be implicated in this unwanted side effect, which may interfere with esthetics, mastication or speech. Case Report: The case presented here is a 60-year-old female patient with drug induced gingival enlargement. Patient was a known hypertensive and was on medication from past two years. Planned surgical intervention along with full mouth rehabilitation was the chosen treatment strategy. Clinical follow-up period lasted for one and a half years. Conclusion: With the consent of physician for substitution of the drug along with stringent maintenance of oral hygiene, surgical correction is required, and positive pressure appliance helps in preventing the recurrence of the gingival enlargement. Amlodipine- induced gingival overgrowth: a case report.
Drug-induced gingival overgrowth occurs in genetically susceptibIe individuals as a side effect of various drugs. There is a gross disfiguring enlargement of gingiva mostly in the anterior region leading to difficulty in mastication, speech and maintenance of oral hygiene. In this case report, amlodipine-induced gingival enlargement and its management are discussed. Drug substituion, appropriat...
متن کاملCase report: drug-induced gingival overgrowth associated with the use of a calcium channel blocker (amlodipine).
INTRODUCTION Many factors can contribute to the development of gingival overgrowth (hyperplasia), including: plaque control; periodontal variables; medications and their relative dose; age; sex; and, genetic factors. Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker commonly reported to result in drug-induced gingival overgrowth (DIGO). This report outlines a case of gingival overgrowth induced by amlodi...

295 ABSTRACT: Gingival overgrowth (GO) is one of the most important clinical features of gingival pathology. Amlodipine is a comparatively new III generation calcium channels blocker, used for management of cardiovascular disorders. Although it is considered safe, it can also rarely induce GO. A case of severe amlodipine-induced GO, complicated by inflammatory changes due to plaque accumulation...

Drug-induced gingival hyperplasia is a serious concern both for the patient and the clinician. A 45 year-old Caucasian male patient with hypertension, who received amlodipine (10 mg/day, single dose orally) for two months, sought medical attention because of the new-onset gingival enlargement. On clinical examination a generalized and firm overgrowth of the gingival throughout the maxilla and t...

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker used in the management of angina and hypertension. We report 3 cases of gingival overgrowth in adult dentate patients associated with chronic usage of this drug. Gingival changes occurred within 3 months of dosage and appeared to be compounded by the patient's existing periodontal condition. In all 3 patients, there was sequestration of amlodipine in thei...
