چکیده

Analysis of 95 necropsy patients with active infective endocarditis (AIE) involving 128 native cardiac valves (aortic = 59, mitral = 48, tricuspid = 20, and pulmonic = 1) disclosed 27 patients with ring abscesses involving 30 valves: the aortic valve ring was infected in 24 patients and only an atrioventricular valve ring (mitral in two, and tricuspid in one) in three patients. Comparison of the following parameters showed no significant differences between the 27 patients with and the 68 patients without ring abscess: age, sex, antibiotic treatment or length of treatment, status of the cardiac valve(s)

نتایج مفید جراحی قلب در بیماران مبتلا به آندوکاردیت: بررسی 43 بیمار با آندوکاردیت عفونی که تحت عمل جراحی قلب قرار گرفته اند

Two factors changed the clinical course of infective endocarditis dramatically: 1) The discovery and evolution of techniques for identifying and treating its microbiologic causes and 2) Valvular surgery. We retrospectively evaluated 43 (33.5%) patients (8 female, 35 male) from 4 to 65 years old of 128 patients with infective endocarditis who underwent surgical intervention. Indication for surge...

Comparison of long term outcome in patients with or without aortic ring abscess treated surgically for aortic valve infective endocarditis.

OBJECTIVE To assess the long term prognostic significance of aortic valve ring abscess in patients with aortic endocarditis. PATIENTS A consecutive series of 75 patients who had surgery for aortic infective endocarditis between 1981 and 1989; 35 had aortic ring abscesses (group 1) and 40 did not (group 2). Mean age did not differ between the two groups. Prosthetic valve endocarditis was prese...

Infective endocarditis superimposed on a massively calcified severely stenotic congenitally bicuspid aortic valve.

We describe a 55-year-old man who presented with a stroke resulting from active infective endocarditis (IE) involving a heavily calcified bicuspid aortic valve. The case highlights the infrequency of IE involving a heavily calcified valve, the inability of the infection to penetrate the calcific deposits, and the ability of the infection to spread to the adjacent soft tissues, leading to ring a...

A Case of Staphylococcal Tricuspid Valve Endocarditis With Para-Aortic Abscess in a Patient With Bicuspid Aortic Valve

Paravalvular abscess is a serious complication of infective endocarditis. The aortic valve and its adjacent ring are more susceptible to abscess formation and paravalvular extension than the mitral valve. A 15-years old patient with bicuspid aortic valve presented with staphylococcal tricuspid valve endocarditis complicated by para-aortic abscess that ruptured into the aortic sinus. We report t...
