The CLEO-III Trigger: Axial and Stereo Tracking1
نویسندگان
چکیده
The tracking subsystem of the CLEO-III Trigger consists of separate axial and stereo tracking pattern-matching modules, whose products are time-aligned and spatially correlated to provide pipelined trigger information every 42 ns with a latency of approximately 2 μs. This paper describes the pipelined signal processing and pattern recognition schemes used by the axial and stereo electronics to provide the information necessary to make trigger decisions. Extensive use of in-system field programmable gate arrays support path finding and timing information extraction.

The CLEO-III Trigger: Level 1 Decision and Gating1
The Level 1 Decision and Data Flow/Control subsystems of the CLEO-III Trigger produce and distribute a trigger decision every 42 ns based on input from calorimetry and tracking subsystems. This paper describes the free-running pipelined trigger decision logic that correlates axial and stereo tracking information, and combines time-aligned calorimetry information onto a common backplane. Program...
متن کاملThe CLEO-III Trigger: Design Methodology Case Study1
The design of the CLEO-III Trigger produced 24 different multilayer printed circuit board designs, and over 100 FPGA configurations. Only one board design was intentionally prototyped and respun; only one board design was respun due to design/layout error; only one board design had more than 6 ECO wires. A detailed case study of the CLEO-III Trigger design methodology is presented. Scheduling, ...
متن کاملTrigger Development for Two-Photon Physics at CLEO III
The goal of this study was to develop trigger requirements to facilitate the detection of twophoton interactions producing c and f 0 2 mesons while minimizing the overall trigger rate of the CLEO III detector. Monte Carlo simulations of data were analyzed and a trigger simulation was created. Separate triggers were developed for decays producing charged daughters (e.g., kaons or pions) and deca...
متن کاملThe CLEO-III Trigger: Analog and Digital Calorimetry1
The calorimetry subsystem of the CLEO-III Trigger incorporates both analog and digital electronics to provide pipelined trigger information every 42 ns with a latency of approximately 2.5 μs. This paper describes the pipelined signal-processing and pattern-recognition schemes used to provide calorimeter information to the experiment trigger, with somewhat greater emphasis on the analog componen...
متن کاملQCD Studies in Two-Photon Collisions at CLEO
We review the results of two-photon measurements performed up to date by the CLEO experiment at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. These measurements provide an almost background-free virtual laboratory to study strong interactions in the process of the e+e− scattering. We discuss the measurements of two-photon partial widths of charmonium, cross sections for hadron pairs production, antisearch fo...
