چکیده

Approximately 15–20% of patients with cataracts have more than 1.5 diopters (D) of pre-existing astigmatism1. Reducing this preoperative astigmatism can improve visual outcomes after cataract surgery. The astigmatism can be reduced with the phacoemulsification incisions, with corneal or limbal relaxing incisions and with excimer laser keratectomy. Another alternative for astigmatism correction in the cataract surgery is to implant a toric intraocular lens (IOL). Several reports have shown good outcomes in terms of safety, predictability, and efficacy after implantation of toric ARTICLE

Visual outcome and optical quality after bilateral implantation of aspheric diffractive multifocal, aspheric monofocal and spherical monofocal intraocular lenses: a prospective comparison.

AIM To evaluate the visual function after bilateral implantation of aspheric diffractive multifocal Tecnis ZMA00, aspheric monofocal ZA9003 versus spherical monofocal Akreos Adapt intraocular lenses (IOLs). METHODS Tecnis ZMA00, Tecnis ZA9003 or Akreos Adapt IOLs were bilaterally implanted in 180 eyes from 90 patients. The following parameters were assessed 3 months postoperatively: monocular...

Aspheric Intraocular Lenses Implantation for Cataract Patients with Extreme Myopia

Objective. To evaluate the postoperative visual quality of cataract patients with extreme myopia after implantation of aspheric intraocular lenses (IOLs). Methods. Thirty-three eyes were enrolled in this prospectivestudy. Eighteen eyes with an axial length longer than 28 mm were included in the extreme myopia group, and the other 15 eyes were included in the nonextreme myopia group. Phacoemulsi...

Comparison of higher order aberrations with spherical and aspheric IOLs compared to normal phakic eyes.

PURPOSE To compare higher order aberrations (HOA) in AcrySof SN60AT and Acrysof IQ SN60WF intraocular lenses (IOLs) and natural crystalline lenses in an age-matched population. METHODS Sixty-nine eyes of 55 patients were examined. Group I included AcrySof spheric lenses, group II AcrySof aspheric lenses, and group III included patients with the natural crystalline lens. The HOA data were obta...

Optimizing the correction of low corneal astigmatism in cataract patients

RESULTS: Implantation of a toric IOL reduced the refraction astigmatism by 80%. Aberrations increased in all patients, but while astigmatic aberration decreased with toric IOLs, spherical aberration decreased with aspheric IOLs. The UCVA was better with toric and aspheric IOLs (0.1 logMAR), whereas the BCVA was statistically better with aspheric IOLs compared to spherical (p = 0.05). The CSF wa...

Comparison of retinal image quality with spherical and customized aspheric intraocular lenses

We hypothesize that an intraocular lens (IOL) with higher-order aspheric surfaces customized for an individual eye provides improved retinal image quality, despite the misalignments that accompany cataract surgery. To test this hypothesis, ray-tracing eye models were used to investigate 10 designs of mono-focal single lens IOLs with rotationally symmetric spherical, aspheric, and customized sur...
