چکیده
If k is a positive real number, we say that a set S of real numbers is k-sum-free if there do not exist x, y, z in S such that x+y = kz. For k greater than or equal to 4 we find the essentially unique measurable k-sum-free subset of (0, 1] of maximum size.

Using the model of words, we give bijective proofs of Gould-Mohanty's and Raney-Mohanty's identities, which are respectively multivariable generalizations of Gould's identity n k=0 x − kz k y + kz n − k = n k=0 x + ǫ − kz k y − ǫ + kz n − k and Rothe's identity n k=0 x x − kz x − kz k y + kz n − k = x + y n .
متن کاملMaximal subsets of pairwise non-commuting elements of some finite p-groups
Let G be a group. A subset X of G is a set of pairwise noncommuting elements if xy ̸= yx for any two distinct elements x and y in X. If |X| ≥ |Y | for any other set of pairwise non-commuting elements Y in G, then X is said to be a maximal subset of pairwise non-commuting elements. In this paper we determine the cardinality of a maximal subset of pairwise non-commuting elements in any non-abelian...
متن کاملCompleteness results for metrized rings and lattices
The Boolean ring $B$ of measurable subsets of the unit interval, modulo sets of measure zero, has proper radical ideals (for example, ${0})$ that are closed under the natural metric, but has no prime ideal closed under that metric; hence closed radical ideals are not, in general, intersections of closed prime ideals. Moreover, $B$ is known to be complete in its metric. Togethe...
متن کاملNote on a Casimir Energy Calculation for a Purely Dielectric Cylinder by Mode Summation
We comment on a recent calculation of the zero-point energy for a dilute and infinitely long cylinder of purely-dielectric material. The vanishing result predicted by integration of van der Waals potentials is obtained.
