چکیده

CAPRi Working Papers contain preliminary material and research results, and are circulated prior to a full peer review in order to stimulate discussion and critical comment. It is expected that most Working Papers will eventually be published in some other form, and that their content may also be revised. ABSTRACT This paper examines the effects of tenure on tree management at a community level. First, several important conceptual issues arising from this particular meso-level focus are discussed. Second, a description of the key tenure and tree management issues in Uganda and Malawi is presented. In each case, data representing changes in land use and tree cover between the 1960–70s and 1990s are analyzed. In both countries, there has been significant conversion of land from woodlands to agriculture. Tree cover has been more or less maintained over time in Uganda but has decreased in Malawi. Lastly, the paper explores the relationships between tenure and tree management using econometric techniques. Tenure is found to be linked to land-use and tree-cover change in both countries, though it is not necessarily the most important factor (e.g., population pressure is the key driving force for land-use change). In Uganda, conversion of land was more rapid under the customary tenure system and tree cover on nonagricultural land better maintained under the mailo system. In Malawi there was more rapid land-use conversion and tree cover depletion where there were more changes to traditional tenure systems taking place.

Presenting a Model for Financial Reporting Fraud Detection using Genetic Algorithm

both academic and auditing firms have been searching for ways to detect corporate fraud. The main objective of this study was to present a model to detect financial reporting fraud by companies listed on Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE) using genetic algorithm. For this purpose, consistent with theoretical foundations, 21 variables were selected to predict fraud in financial reporting that finally, ...

Variations in the Abundance Pattern of Extremely Metal-poor Stars and Nucleosynthesis in Population III Supernovae

We calculate nucleosynthesis in Population (Pop) III supernovae (SNe) and compare the yields with various abundance pattern of extremely metal-poor (EMP) stars. We assume that the observed EMP stars are the second generation stars, which have the metal-abundance pattern of the Pop III SNe. Previous theoretical yields and observations do not match well. In this paper we consider high energy expl...

Probing New Physics From CP Violation in Radiative B Decays

When new CP-violating interactions are dominated by flavor changing neutral particle exchanges, that may occur in many extensions of the standard model. We examine a type 3 two Higgs doublet model and find that direct CP asymmetries can be as large as about 25% . Time-dependent and time-integrated mixing-induced CP asymmetries up to 85 and 40 %, respectively, are possible without conflict with ...

Scaling Laws of Solar and Stellar Flares

In this study we compile for the first time comprehensive data sets of solar and stellar flare parameters, including flare peak temperatures Tp, flare peak volume emission measures EMp, and flare durations τf from both solar and stellar data, as well as flare length scales L from solar data. Key results are that both the solar and stellar data are consistent with a common scaling law of EMp ∝ T...
