چکیده
Saturn • Determine the global configuration and dynamics of hot plasma in the magnetosphere of Saturn through energetic neutral particle imaging of ring current, radiation belts, and neutral clouds. • Study the sources of plasmas and energetic ions through in situ measurements of energetic ion composition, spectra, charge state, and angular distributions. • Search for, monitor, and analyze magnetospheric substorm-like activity at Saturn. • Determine through the imaging and composition studies the magnetosphere– satellite interactions at Saturn and understand the formation of clouds of neutral hydrogen, nitrogen, and water products. • Investigate the modification of satellite surfaces and atmospheres through plasma and radiation bombardment. • Study Titan’s cometary interaction with Saturn’s magnetosphere (and the solar wind) via high-resolution imaging and in situ ion and electron measurements. • Measure the high energy (E e > 1 MeV, E p > 15 MeV) particle component in the inner (L < 5 R S ) magnetosphere to assess cosmic ray albedo neutron decay (CRAND) source characteristics. • Investigate the absorption of energetic ions and electrons by the satellites and rings in order to determine particle losses and diffusion processes within the magnetosphere. • Study magnetosphere–ionosphere coupling through remote sensing of aurora and in situ measurements of precipitating energetic ions and electrons.

The Cassini Magnetic Field Investigation
The dual technique magnetometer system onboard the Cassini orbiter is described. This instrument consists of vector helium and fluxgate magnetometers with the capability to operate the helium device in a scalar mode. This special mode is used near the planet in order to determine with very high accuracy the interior field of the planet. The orbital mission will lead to a detailed understanding ...
متن کاملEnergetic neutral atom emissions from Titan interaction with Saturn's magnetosphere.
The Cassini Magnetospheric Imaging Instrument (MIMI) observed the interaction of Saturn's largest moon, Titan, with Saturn's magnetosphere during two close flybys of Titan on 26 October and 13 December 2004. The MIMI Ion and Neutral Camera (INCA) continuously imaged the energetic neutral atoms (ENAs) generated by charge exchange reactions between the energetic, singly ionized trapped magnetosph...

Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, provides an interesting opportunity to study how dense atmospheres interact with the surrounding plasma environment. Without an intrinsic magnetic field, this satellite’s nitrogen-rich atmosphere is relatively unprotected from plasma interactions. Therefore, the energydeposition rate is important for understanding chemistry and dynamics in Titan’s atmosphere. Since...

n what follows, we describe the technique and history of energetic neutral atom (enA) imaging of space plasma and present recent results from international collaborations involving enA imaging experiments as well as results from the imAge mission at earth and the cassini mission at Jupiter and saturn. both imAge and cassini carry ApL-built enA cameras. The henA instrument onboard the imAge miss...
متن کاملSaturn: atmosphere, ionosphere, and magnetosphere.
The Cassini spacecraft has been in orbit around Saturn since 30 June 2004, yielding a wealth of data about the Saturn system. This review focuses on the atmosphere and magnetosphere and briefly outlines the state of our knowledge after the Cassini prime mission. The mission has addressed a host of fundamental questions: What processes control the physics, chemistry, and dynamics of the atmosphe...
