Isolation and Identification of Mycoplasma mycoides Subspecies mycoides Small Colony Bovine Biotype in Eastern Ethiopia
نویسنده
چکیده
An outbreak of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) was investigated in the Somali National Regional State, Eastern Ethiopia, to isolate and identify the causative Mycoplasma species. Detailed physical clinical examination was performed on over 700 affected animals to select acutely sick animals for autopsy and bacteriological specimen collection. Postmortem examination and sample collection was performed on 7 recently dead animals. The clinical and pathological findings encountered, and the bacteriological as well as the biochemical tests performed, established the outbreak to be CBPP. Regular mass vaccination of susceptible herds is recommended to control the disease.

Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is an important disease of cattle in Africa caused by Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides biotype small colony (MmmSC) and characterized by extensive lesions of pleurisy and pneumonia (13). Among infectious diseases that threaten African cattle, its importance is only second to rinderpest (RP) and, as more and more countries declare being free of RP, CBP...

A new strategy for rapidly selecting and testing genetic vaccines has been developed, in which a whole genome library is cloned into a bacteriophage lambda ZAP Express vector which contains both prokaryotic (P(lac)) and eukaryotic (P(CMV)) promoters upstream of the insertion site. The phage library is plated on Escherichia coli cells, immunoblotted, and probed with hyperimmune and/or convalesce...

A better understanding of protective immune memory against contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is needed in order to facilitate the development of safer vaccines based on selected components of the pathogen. For this purpose, cells collected from lymph nodes draining the lungs of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides small colony biotype (MmmSC)-infected cattle were stimulated with the patho...
متن کاملVariable surface protein Vmm of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides small colony type.
A variable surface protein, Vmm, of the bovine pathogen Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides small colony type (M. mycoides SC) has been identified and characterized. Vmm was specific for the SC biotype and was expressed by 68 of 69 analyzed M. mycoides SC strains. The protein was found to undergo reversible phase variation at a frequency of 9 x 10(-4) to 5 x 10(-5) per cell per generation. The ...

Four strains of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides small colony type (MmmSC) isolated from recent outbreaks of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) in Africa have been investigated. One Botswanan strain, M375, displayed numerous and significant phenotypic differences from both contemporary field isolates and older field and vaccine strains (African, Australian, and European strains dating ...
