چکیده

Since at least Roman times, salts of aluminum have been added to drinking water and surface water to reduce turbidity and improve appearance. Aluminum sulfate, Al2(SO4)3, commonly called alum, has been used extensively as a flocculating agent in the treatment of wastewater for over 100 years. In 1970, Jernelov was apparently the first to use alum to remove phosphorus from the water column of a lake in a whole-lake alum application conducted as part of a lake restoration project on Lake Langsjon in Sweden. The first U.S. lake to be treated with a whole-lake alum application was Horseshoe Lake in Wisconsin which received a surface application of 2.6 mg Al/liter in May 1970. Twelve years later, phosphorus concentrations were still below the pre-treatment level (Garrison and Knauer, 1984).

Current Research and Trends in Alum Treatment of Stormwater Runoff

Alum treatment of runoff has been used as a stormwater retrofit option for the past 20 years. This technology has evolved from the initial demonstration research projects to a viable retrofit option for urban areas. A considerable amount of data has now been collected on the water quality and ecological impacts of alum treatment systems. Alum treatment of stormwater consistently provides remova...

بهینه سازی مشخصه فیزیکی تالاب پیش ساخته به کمک مدل شبیه‌ساز-بهینه‌ساز MUSIC-GA

Nowadays, urbanization is a common process which replaces vegetation cover with impervious areas. This process increases urban stormwater. A new tendency in urban stormwater management endorses ‘source control’, whereby distributed water sensitive urban design systems are built throughout the subdivisions to alleviate the effects of land use changes. Various costs and functions are ...

Nitrate removal from water using alum and ferric chloride: A comparative study of alum and ferric chloride efficiency

Background: Nitrate is an acute and well-known hazardous contaminant, and its contamination of water sources has been a growing concern worldwide in recent years. This study evaluated the feasibility of nitrate removal from water using the traditional coagulants alum and ferric chloride with lower concentrations than those used in the conventional coagulation process. Methods: In this research...
