چکیده

The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the debate on the seemingly dichotomy between structure and chaos in the innovation literature. The paper illustrates how organizations simultaneously use rigid plans and remain flexible, by deliberate but unplanned initiations of small temporary teams in order to solve non-predicted problems. This phenomenon is labeled " cheetah teams ". Anchored in three qualitative case studies, the paper analyzes the effects of using cheetah teams to manage the unplanned qualities of product development projects. The conclusion is that effective project planning is built on the assumption that the unplanned will be managed on an ad hoc basis during project execution. Cheetah teams constitute an example of one such ad hoc mechanism.

Robustness of cheetah asymptotic growth rate and implications to population models∗

The endangered cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is in decline due to hunting, poaching, loss of habitat, lack of genetic diversity and death of cubs due to natural predators such as lions and hyenas. Previous cheetah population models contend that increasing the survivorship of adult cheetahs is the best conservation method to ensure long term viability of this endangered species. The age-structured ...

Movement patterns of cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) in farmlands in Botswana

Botswana has the second highest population of cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) with most living outside protected areas. As a result, many cheetahs are found in farming areas which occasionally results in human-wildlife conflict. This study aimed to look at movement patterns of cheetahs in farming environments to determine whether cheetahs have adapted their movements in these human-dominated landsca...

During the formulative stages of developing the Species Survival Plan (SSP) for the cheetah, the impact of infectious disease upon its survival in captivity was of prime consideration, together with genetics, nutrition, physiology, and behaviour. This paper summarizes the results of an infectious disease surveillance program, initially designed to monitor the infectious agent associated with cl...

A comparative acoustic analysis of purring in four cheetahs

This paper reports results from a comparative analysis of purring in four tame cheetahs. The results exhibited individual variation for relative phase duration and number of cycles per phase, while egressive phases were louder and had higher fundamental frequency in all four cheetahs.

Evaluating camera trapping as a method for estimating cheetah abundance in ranching areas

In order to accurately assess the status of the cheetah Acinonyx jubatus it is necessary to obtain data on numbers and demographic trends. However, cheetahs are notoriously difficult to survey because they occur at very low population densities and are often shy and elusive. In South Africa the problem is further complicated in areas where land is privately owned, restricting access, with dense...
