چکیده

The present study investigates fundamental frequency as a potential basis for segmentation in models of infant speech segmentation. Pairs of segments that were similar either in terms of fundamental frequency envelop or in terms of transcribed content were found in three different speech styles: speech directed to three-month-olds, speech directed to twelve-montholds and speech directed to adults. Spectral distance between the segments was calculated for each pair and used as a rough measure of spectral similarity. In both the infant-directed speech style conditions, the spectral distance was smaller when fundamental frequency was used as basis for segmentation, compared to when transcriptions were used. In the adult-directed speech style condition, no difference was found between different bases of segmentation.

بررسی برخی ویژگی های آکوستیک گفتار نوزاد مدار در مادران فارسی زبان

Introduction: When adults talk to another person, linguistic characteristics of the listener will also be considered. A clear example of speech changes depending on the listener is maternal or infant directed speech. Infant directed speech is more slowly with longer sentences and pauses at the end of the utterance. Undoubtedly the most distinctive feature of this style of speech is acoustic c...

Fundamental frequency as basis for speech segmentation modeling

The present study investigates the relevance of fundamental frequency in speech segmentation models intended to simulate infants. Speech from three different conditions (infant-directed speech to 3and 12-month-olds, and adult-directed speech) was segmented based on fundamental frequency information, using a variant of the dpn-gram segmenting technique (highlighting similar segments as lexical c...

Motif discovery in infant- and adult-directed speech

Infant-directed speech (IDS) is thought to play a key role in determining infant language acquisition. It is thus important to describe how computational models of infant language acquisition behave when given an input of IDS, as compared to adult-directed speech (ADS). In this paper, we explore how an acoustic motif discovery algorithm fares when presented with speech from both registers. Resu...

بررسی ویژگی‌های آکوستیکی مربوط به کنترل حرکتی گفتار در کودکان لکنتی و غیرلکنتی

Objective Stuttering is a developmental disorder of speech fluency with unknown causes. One of the proposed theories in this field is deficits in speech motor control that is associated with damaged control, timing, and coordination of the speech muscles. Fundamental frequency, fundamental frequency range, intensity, intensity range, and voice onset time are the most important acoustic componen...

Fundamental Frequency Analysis of Longitudinal Recording in a Japanese Infant Speech Database

To investigate the acoustic characteristics of spoken language development, the utterances of five Japanese infants and their parents were recorded from the infants’ birth until the age of 60 months. An infant-speech database is now being developed from these longitudinal recordings. New methods of fundamental frequency (F0) extraction and voiced/unvoiced segment detection were proposed in orde...
