Maritime GIS: From Monitoring to Simulation Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Combined research in the fields of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and maritime systems has finally reached the point where paths should overlap and continue in better unison. This paper introduces methodological and experimental results of several marinerelated GIS projects whose objectives are to develop spatial data models and computing architectures that favour the development of monitoring and decision-aid systems. The computing architectures developed integrate agent-based reasoning and distributed systems for the real-time monitoring, manipulation and simulation of maritime transportation systems.

Real-Time Geographical Information Systems for ITS
Combined research in the fields of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), transportation modelling and traffic systems has in fact finally reached the point where paths should overlap and continue in better unison between these different domains. This paper introduces methodological and experimental results of several integrated projects that include traffic monitoring systems, GIS and several...
متن کاملGIS Technology for Maritime Traffic Systems
Safety and security are constant concerns of maritime navigation, especially when considering the constant growth of maritime traffic and decrease of crews on decks. This has favoured to the development of automated monitoring systems such as the Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). However, officers on the watch and monitoring autho...
متن کاملWeb Architecture for Monitoring and Visualizing Mobile Objects in Maritime Contexts
Recent advances in telecommunication and positioning systems, web and wireless architectures offer new perspectives and challenges to the management and visualization of mobile and geo-referenced objects. Amongst many research challenges still opened, the development of integrated sensorbased architectures necessary to the integration of mobile data has been often neglected. Real-time integrati...
متن کاملThe Application of GIS in Maritime Boundary Delimitation
The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (East Timor) attained independence on 20 May 2002, marking its separation from Indonesia. As a newly independent country, East Timor is faced with a number of significant international opportunities, together with some obligations that it must fulfil, including the delimitation of its international boundaries. Similarly, for Indonesia, with 10 maritime nei...
متن کاملThe geographical decision-making chain: formalization and application to maritime risk analysis
Maritime traffic monitoring needs tools for spatiotemporal decision support. The operators responsible (e.g. the Coast Guard) must monitor vessels that are represented as objects moving in space and time. Operators use maritime tracking systems to follow the evolution of traffic and make decisions about the risks of a situation. These systems are based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) an...
