Population balance modeling in Simulink: PCSS
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this work we develop, demonstrate, and distribute the code for a new Simulink block that models the dynamic evolution of the population density function for a physical system which can be modeled by a population balance equation. The name of the block is PCSS, for population balance modeling using the conservation element/solution element method in Simulink. The block interfaces with an auxiliary user-defined function that allows the user to specify arbitrary expressions for growth and generation/loss terms, as well as an arbitrary number of inputs, outputs and auxiliary states for the block. The versatility of the block allows a wide variety of physical systems to be modeled, and the implementation in Simulink facilitates rapid model development and permits the use of pre-existing MATLAB/Simulink packages for system identification and control. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Development of a Dynamic Population Balance Plant Simulator for Mineral Processing Circuits
Operational variables of a mineral processing circuit are subjected to different variations. Steady-statesimulation of processes provides an estimate of their ideal stable performance whereas their dynamicsimulation predicts the effects of the variations on the processes or their subsequent processes. In thispaper, a dynamic simulator containing some of the major equipment of mineral processing...
متن کاملHydrologic and Water Quality Model Development Using Simulink
A stormwater runoff model based on the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) method and a finite-volume based water quality model have been developed to investigate the use of Simulink for use in teaching and research. Simulink, a MATLAB extension, is a graphically based model development environment for system modeling and simulation. Widely used for mechanical and electrical systems, Simulink has h...
متن کاملPopulation Balance Equation Modeling of Crude Oil Demulsification Considering Demulsifier: Modification of Collision Frequency Function Based on Thermodynamic Model
A theoretical model is developed to consider the effect of demulsifier agent on demulsification of water-in-crude oil emulsion. A thermodynamic approach is considered to correlate the critical micelle concentration of a demulsifier to the collision frequency function in population balance equation (PBE). Based on the proposed correlation, the collision frequency function is modified to account ...
متن کاملModeling, Simulation and Design of Control Circuit for Flexible Energy System in Matlab&simulink
The paper introduces two control loops for keeping the temperatures at given values based on technological conditions. The design of the control loops is carried out in several steps. Firstly, the regulated plant must be identified. This is done through ident tool in Matlab (simulating a step response to predefined step change) and it leads to linearized mathematical model in a given operating ...
متن کاملPopulation Balance Modelling of Zirconia Nanoparticles in Supercritical Water Hydrothermal Synthesis
Like any other precipitation process, in supercritical water hydrothermal synthesis (SWHS), the need to improve product quality and minimize production cost requires understanding and optimization of Particle Size Distribution (PSD). In this work, using Population Balance Equation (PBE) containing nucleation and growth terms, the reactive precipitation of zirconia nanoparticles prepared by ...
