چکیده
Objective—To determine the concentrations of â-phenylethylamine (PEA) in CSF in patients with Parkinson’s disease, and to evaluate the relation between concentration of PEA in CSF and severity of Parkinson’s disease. Methods—Using gas chromatographychemical ionisation mass spectrometry, CSF concentrations of PEA were measured in 23 patients with Parkinson’s disease (mean age, 64.0 (SD 8.2) years), of whom three were at Hoehn and Yahr stage II, 11 were at stage III, and nine were at stage IV. Comparison was made with eight patients with neuropathy (mean age, 57.0 (SD 19.2) years) and 12 controls without neurological disease (mean age, 57.6 (SD 4.8) years). Results—Concentrations of PEA in CSF in Parkinson’s disease were significantly lower (mean 205 (SD 131) pg/ml) than in patients with peripheral neuropathy (433 (SD 254) pg/ml) and controls (387 (SD 194) pg/ml). The concentrations of PEA in CSF correlated negatively with Hoehn and Yahr stage (P<0.01). Conclusions—There are decreased CSF concentrations of PEA in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Platelet monoamine oxidase B and plasma â-phenylethylamine in Parkinson’s disease
Objective—To evaluate the correlation between changes in platelet monoamine oxidase type B (MAO-B) activity and plasma â-phenylethylamine (PEA) concentrations in patients with Parkinson’s disease and controls. Methods—Platelet MAO-B activity and plasma PEA were measured with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) in patients with Parkinson’s disease treated with levodopa (12 men and 12 wo...
متن کاملHighly increased CSF tau protein and decreased â-amyloid (1–42) in sporadic CJD: a discrimination from Alzheimer’s disease?
The aim was to quantify tau protein and â-amyloid (Aâ42) in the CSF of patients with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and controls. Double sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) were used for measurments. Tau was increased 58-fold in CJD and 3.5-fold in AD compared with controls, whereas Aâ42 was decreased 0.5-fold in both CJD and AD. A cut oV le...
متن کاملThe Effect of Olive Leaf Methanolic Extract on Hippocampal Antioxidant Biomarkers in an Animal Model of Parkinson’s Disease
Background and Objective: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disease characterized by damages to striatal dopaminergic neurons that affects 1 to 2% of the population above 65 years of age. Olive leaf extract (OLE) is a powerful antioxidant that is considered as a source of various phenolic compounds. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of methanolic OLE on hipp...
متن کاملThe effect of low dose amphetamine in rotenone-induced toxicity in a mice model of Parkinson’s disease
Objective(s): The effects of low dose amphetamine on oxidative stress and rotenone-induced neurotoxicity and liver injury were examined in vivo in a mice model of Parkinson’s disease. Materials and Methods: Male mice were treated with rotenone (1.5 mg/kg, every other day for two weeks, subcutaneously). Mice received either the vehicle or...
متن کامل99mTc-TRODAT-1 SPECT Imaging in Early and Late Onset Parkinson’s Disease
Objective(s): 99mTc-TRODAT-1, which binds to the dopamine transporter, could be used to image the dopaminergic system in diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease (PD). PD can be classified into two groups: late onset Parkinson’s disease (LOPD) and early onset Parkinson’s disease (EOPD). In this study we tried to determine the TRODAT SPECT findings in EOPD as compared to LOPD.Methods: Fifteen patients w...
