چکیده

We examine the effects of a linearly polarized nonresonant radiative field on the dynamics of rotationally inelastic Na + N2 collisions at eV collision energies. Our treatment is based on the Fraunhofer model of matter wave scattering and its recent extension to collisions in electric fields [arXiv:0804.3318v1]. The nonresonant radiative field changes the effective shape of the target molecule by aligning it in the space-fixed frame. This markedly alters the differential and integral scattering cross sections. As the cross sections can be evaluated for a polarization of the radiative field collinear or perpendicular to the relative velocity vector, the model also offers predictions about steric asymmetry of the collisions.

Steric effects in state-to-state scattering of OH (2pi(3/2),J=3/2,f) by HCl.

In this paper we address stereo-dynamical issues in the inelastic encounters between OH (chi2pi) radicals and HCl (chi1sigma+). The experiments were performed in a crossed molecular-beam machine at the nominal collision energy of 920 cm(-1). Prior to the collisions, the OH molecules were selected using a hexapole in a well-defined rotational state v=0, omega=32, J=32, M(J)=32, f, and subsequent...

Vibrationally inelastic scattering of high- n Rydberg H atoms from N2 and O2.

The vibrationally inelastic scattering of Rydberg H atoms (n = 30-50) from N2 and O2 at E(coll) = 1.84 eV was studied as a function of laboratory deflection angle. On average, 4 times more vibrational excitation was observed in collisions with O2 than with N2. Vibrational excitation of O2 results largely from collisions in which an electron is briefly transferred from O2 to the proton core, whi...

Inelastic collisions of ultracold triplet Rb2 molecules in the rovibrational ground state

Exploring and controlling inelastic and reactive collisions on the quantum level is a main goal of the developing field of ultracold chemistry. For this, the preparation of precisely defined initial atomic and molecular states in tailored environments is necessary. Here we present experimental studies of inelastic collisions of metastable ultracold Rb2 molecules in an array of quasi-1D potentia...

Probing Scattering Resonances in (Ultra)Cold Inelastic NO-He Collisions.

We theoretically study inelastic collisions between NO radicals and He atoms at low collision energies, focusing on the occurrence of scattering resonances. We specifically investigate de-excitation of rotationally excited NO radicals (X (2)Π1/2, v = 0, j = 3/2, f) at collision energies ranging from 10(-3) to 20 cm(-1) and compute integral and differential cross sections using quantum mechanica...

Inelastic low-energy collisions of electrons with HeH+: Rovibrational excitation and dissociative recombination.

Inelastic low-energy (0-1 eV) collisions of electrons with HeH+ cations are treated theoretically, with a focus on the rovibrational excitation and dissociative recombination (DR) channels. In an application of ab initio multichannel quantum defect theory, the description of both processes is based on the Born-Oppenheimer quantum defects. The quantum defects were determined using the R-matrix a...
