Optical Fiber Pressure Sensor Based on Pho toelasticity and its Application
نویسندگان
چکیده
An optical fiber pressure sensor based on the photoelastic effect using a new compensation technique is described in this paper. ’ h o optical sources and a polarization-splitting prism are incorporated into a sensor system to minimize output drifts. The four major factors-the optical source power, the fiber loss, the optical coupling loss, and the modal power distribution in fibers-are well compensated. The measurement range of 0-147 KPa has been obtained with accuracies of 0.2% within the temperature range of -10°C to 42°C and a resolution of 10 Pa has been achieved. Compensation for fiber loss has been observed up to -30 dB. This sensor system has been successfully put into practical operation for oil storage measurement in a tank.

Measurement of stress transients generated by a 400ns pulsed HF laser in an infrared fluoride glass fiber has been made using fast time – response piezoelectric film transducer. Acoustic signals up to 12 mV with frequencies ranging in megahertz generated by 21 mJ laser pulse when passed through the fiber axis in the linear region. It is shown that useful information such as onset of non - linea...

For a fiber optical surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor a short part of its cladding should be removed to coat a thin layer of a metal. Usually this is problematic when an optical fiber with small core diameter is used. In this paper, a new method using µliter droplet of the HF acid for short fiber optical taper fabrication is reported. Using this method in a multi-mode optical fiber w...

The use of different optical-fiber sensors for weighing measurements is Abstract described. By using three different mechanical stressing mechanisms, the operation of the fiber-to-fiber transducer systems are tested and the results are presented. Parameters such as sensitivity, hysteresis, resolution, and dynamic range are measured. A comparison of the results has shown that the sensor system m...
متن کاملFiber optic pressure sensor based on polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber for downhole application
We experimentally demonstrate a high pressure sensor based on a polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber (PMPCF) with Sagnac loop configuration for downhole application. The pressure sensitivity of the proposed sensor is 4.21 nm/MPa and 3.27 nm/MPa at ~1320 nm and ~1550 nm respectively. High pressure measurement up to 20 MPa has been achieved in our experiment. The sensor also shows redu...
