Androgenic regulation of plasma prostaglandin F levels in the rat.

چکیده
Prostaglandins (PGs) can be synthesized by the testes (Ellis, 1972) and are present in the male accessory reproductive tissues and in the semen of various mammalian species (Bygdeman, Fredricsson, Svanborg & Samuelsson, 1970; Tan & Privett, 1972). Their physiological rôle in the male reproductive system is not understood but various effects of PG administration on the testes and male reproductive tract have been reported. These include decrease in plasma testosterone levels (Bartke, Musto, Caldwell &Behrman, 1973; Saksena, Safoury & Bartke, 1973), decrease in testicular blood flow (Free & Jaffe, 1972), and effects on contractions of the testis capsule (Seeley, Hargrove, Johnson & Ellis, 1972), on sperm transport (Hunt & Nicholson, 1972), and on contractile responses of the ductus deferens and seminal vesicles in vitro (Stahl, 1972; Taylor & Einhorn, 1972). In the human, certain cases of male infertility appear to be associated with a low seminal content of PGs (Bygdeman et al, 1970) and an increase in seminal PGs was recorded after administration of HCG or

Nephrotoxicity of Isosorbide Dinitrate and Cholestasis in Rat: The Possible Role of Nitric Oxide
Background: Nitric oxide (NO), a major chemical form of endothelium-derived relaxing factor and an important regulator of vascular tone, is released by endothelial cells. The role of NO is not restricted to the vascular system, and it participates in the regulation of renal hemodynamics and renal excretory function. There are increasing evidences indicating that the elevated levels of NO play a...

Background and purpose: The regulation of blood glucose is one of the complex phenomenon which is affected by several hormonal and neural systems. Beside hormonal factors, neurological factors, such as different neurotransmitters, including Gama amino buturic acid (GÂBÂ) present in nervous system of mammals playa role in regulation of blood glucose level. متن کاملEffect of pheromones on the plasma level of prolactin during pregnancy and lactating periods in female rat
Introduction: Pheromones play a great role in the reproductive and social behavior of animals. The main sources of pheromones are urine and paracrine secretions. Through the neuroendocrine system, prolactin is a safe parameter to measure and compare the effects of pheromones on the sexual, maternal and also lactating behavior. Methods: Female rats were divided into 19 groups (n=8). To measur...
متن کاملEffects of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids on ovarian function and prostaglandin secretion in lactating dairy cows
As lactating cows in severe negative energy balance have poor reproductive performance, the effect of dietary fat supplementation (fish oil, soybean oil) on PGFM secretion, ovarian function and blood metabolites is investigated. In this experiment, the effects of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids on plasma metabolites, ovarian function and prostaglandin secretion of 20 primiparous Holstein co...
متن کاملEstrogen-directed synthesis of specific prostaglandins in uterus.
Endogenous uterine prostaglandin levels were monitored in the cycling rat and prostaglandins of the F-type were found to rise at proestrus when estrogen levels have been shown to be maximal. Evidence that this is an estrogen-induced event is furnished by the finding that estradiol-17beta caused a similar rise in prostaglandin F levels in uteri of ovariectomized rats, an action blocked by coadmi...
