Crawling and Jumping by a Deformable Robot
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe crawling and jumping by a deformable robot. Locomotion over rough terrain has been achieved mainly by rigid body systems including crawlers and leg mechanisms. This paper presents an alternative method of moving over rough terrain, one that employs deformation. First, we describe the principle of crawling and jumping as performed through deformation of a robot body. Second, in a physical simulation, we investigate the feasibility of the approach. Next, we show experimentally that a prototype of a circular soft robot can crawl and jump.

Optimal Trajectory Generation for a Robotic Worm via Parameterization by B-Spline Curves
In this paper we intend to generate some set of optimal trajectories according to the number of control points has been applied for parameterizing those using B-spline curves. The trajectories are used to generate an optimal locomotion gait in a crawling worm-like robot. Due to gait design considerations it is desired to minimize the required torques in a cycle of gait. Similar to caterpillars,...
متن کاملRobophysical study of jumping dynamics on granular media
Characterizing forces on deformable objects intruding into sand and soil requires understanding the solidand fluid-like responses of such substrates and their e ect on the state of the object. The most detailed studies of intrusion in dry granular media have revealed that interactions of fixed-shape objects during free impact (for example, cannonballs) and forced slow penetration can be describ...
متن کاملTribot, a Multi-Modal Locomotive Origami Robot: Construction and Control
Tribot is an origami robot (robogami) that has two modes of locomotion, jumping and crawling, that can be selected simultaneously upon meeting an obstacle. Designed in an origami-folding pattern combined with spring shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators, Tribot maintains the architecture rather simple by selectively and strategically activating different sets of actuators and sequences to switch b...

متن کاملGait control in a soft robot by sensing interactions with the environment using self-deformation
All animals use mechanosensors to help them move in complex and changing environments. With few exceptions, these sensors are embedded in soft tissues that deform in normal use such that sensory feedback results from the interaction of an animal with its environment. Useful information about the environment is expected to be embedded in the mechanical responses of the tissues during movements. ...
