چکیده

A combination of the crown gall biocontrol strain K-84 and another antagonist JH-l was better than K-84 alone in controlling some Agrobacterium strains. Strain K-84 surprisingly controlled some resistant Agrobacterium strains when heavy concentrations of K-84 were used. Strain K-84 could control sensitive strains of Agrobacterium up to 48 hr. after wounds were inoculated with the pathogen at temperatures of 70 F and below. The ability of K-84 to control various strains of Agrobacterium can only be tested by challenge inoculation on the rootstock of interest.

Isolation of Agrobacterium Tumefaciens Strains from Crown Gall Disease on Imported Roses Plants in Qazvin Province

Cultivar of roses (Rosa spp.) has been grown in greenhouses in Qazvin region of Iran for local markets. Agrobacterium tumefaciens strains were isolated and identified from six different samples of roses plants imported from the Netherland to Iran. During August and September of 2012, nearly 2-5% of rose plants in two different greenhouses in the province of Qazvin were observed with crown gall ...

Biological control for grapevine crown gall using nonpathogenic Rhizobium vitis strain ARK-1

Crown gall of grapevine, which is caused by tumorigenic Rhizobium vitis, is the most important bacterial disease of grapevine throughout the world. Screening tests of biological control agents resulted in the discovery of a nonpathogenic R. vitis strain ARK-1. By soaking grapevine roots with a cell suspension of strain ARK-1 prior to planting in the field, ARK-1 treatment significantly reduced ...

Expression of a crown gall biological control phenotype in an avirulent strain of Agrobacterium vitis by addition of the trifolitoxin production and resistance genes

BACKGROUND Agrobacterium vitis is a causal agent of crown-gall disease. Trifolitoxin (TFX) is a peptide antibiotic active only against members of a specific group of alpha-proteobacteria that includes Agrobacterium and its close relatives. The ability of TFX production by an avirulent strain of Agrobacterium to reduce crown gall disease is examined here. RESULTS TFX was shown to be inhibitory...

Biological Control of the Crown Gall Diseases

Six different strains of crown gall bacteria were tested to determine whether the commonly used biocontrol strain, K-84, would present them from infecting the paradox hybrid. Previous research showed that K-84 was highly effective in preventing crown gall infections of English root stock. There was considerable variability among the six strains in ability to cause disease. One of the strains di...

Biological Control of Crown Gall on Grapevine and Root Colonization by Nonpathogenic Rhizobium vitis Strain ARK-1

A nonpathogenic strain of Rhizobium vitis ARK-1 was tested as a biological control agent for grapevine crown gall. When grapevine roots were soaked in a cell suspension of strain ARK-1 before planting in the field, the number of plants with tumors was reduced. The results from seven field trials from 2009 to 2012 were combined in a meta-analysis. The integrated relative risk after treatment wit...
