The Effect of Vitamin B6 Deficiency in Rats on the Metabolism of Oxalic Acid Precursors.

چکیده
Studies from this laboratory in rats, cats, and monkeys’ have shown that vitamin B6 deficiency is accompanied by a marked increase in endogenous urinary oxalate excretion (1, 2). Studies of oxalate formation are of interest because of the importance of oxalate in urinary calculi (3) and in the genetic disorder, primary hyperoxaluria (4). In this paper alterations caused by vitamin Bg deficiency in the metabolism of a number of compounds which may give rise to oxalic acid have been reported which provide additional information concerning the relationship of vitamin Be deficiency to hyperoxaluria.

The Effect of Vitamin Supplementation on the Urinary Excretion of Tryptophan Metabolites by Pregnant Women.
The first demonstration by Lepkovsky, Roboz and Haagen-Smit (1) of the occurrence of xanthurenic acid in urine of vitamin B6-deficient rats has since been extended and confirmed in a number of species (2-4) including man (5, 6), and the measurement of xanthurenic acid in urine following a loading dose of tryptophan has been proposed as an index of vitamin B6 nutrition (7). The role of this vita...
متن کاملEffect of an excess intake of leucine, with and without additions of vitamin B6 and/or niacin, on tryptophan and niacin metabolism in rats.
Three experiments were carried out on a total of 78 female rats to examine the effect of an excess intake of leucine, with and without additions of vitamin B6 and/or niacin, on the excretion of tryptophan and niacin metabolites, and on branched-chain amino acid transaminase activity in some organs and on serum amino acid levels. An excess in take of leucine (10% leucine) retarded the growth of ...

Hyperhomocysteinemia is a condition which , in the absence of kidney disease , indicates a disturpted sulfur amino acid metabolism , either because of vitamin deficiency (folate , B12 and B6 ) or a genetic defect. Epidemiologicevidence suggests that mild Hyperhomocysteinemia is associated with increased risk of arteriosclerotic disease and stroke . Hyperhomocysteinemia is an independent risk fa...
متن کاملMercury Intoxication in Rats: Iron and Vitamin B6 as A Potential Therapy
Background: Mercury in any form is poisonous and mercury toxicity most commonly affects the nervous, gastrointestinal (GI) and urinary systems. The aim of this study was to investigate the specific effect associated with mercury toxicity and to evaluate the effectiveness of iron and vitamin B6 supplement on mercury-induced toxicities in rats. Methods: This experiment was performed on 25 rats...
متن کاملEffect of D-penicillamine on Vitamin B6 Activation of Aspartate Aminotransferase in Synaptosomes of the Developing Brain
The activity of aspartate aminotransferase a vitamin B6 containing enzyme was measured in the laysed synaptosomes prepared from rat brain, during development. Administration of vitamin B6 increased the enzyme activity throughout development. The stimulating effect of this vitamin was prevented when the animals were previously treated with D-penicillamine. However, penicillamine alone had n...
