چکیده
Present study deals with the isolation and characterization of desiccation tolerant bacteria Micrococcus luteus-chp37 from rhizosphere of plant growing in the Cholistan desert of Pakistan. To check the desiccation tolerance, strain was incubated at various levels of relative humidity (5, 27 and 100%) for a period of 6, 12 and 18 days. The surviving fractions of M. luteus-chp37 after 18 days of desiccation, under RH 5, 27 and 100% were 2, 4 and 0.6%, respectively. M. luteus-chp37 incubated under RH 5% and 100% lost its viability at much faster rates as compared to RH 27%. To check the plant growth promoting ability of this strain, pot experiments with Zea mays (under sandy and pure field soil) were conducted and various growth parameters (germination, root and shoot length, number of leaves, dry weight per gram fresh weight, chlorophyll contents) were measured after 90 days maize plants. M. luteus-chp37 inoculation resulted 8.5, 13, 23 and 54% increases in number of leaves, shoot length, root length and dry weight g fresh weight, respectively, as compared to un-inoculated control maize plants. Beside this there were 159, 80, 84% and increase in chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and total carotenoids respectively in pure field soil. This growth promotion was attributed as a result of production of plant growth promoting substances cytokine and hydrogen cyanide.

Draft Genome Sequence of Plant Growth–Promoting Micrococcus luteus Strain K39 Isolated from Cyperus conglomeratus in Saudi Arabia
Micrococcus luteus strain K39 is an endophyte bacterium isolated from roots of the desert plant Cyperus conglomeratus collected from the Red Sea shore, Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. The draft genome sequence of strain K39 revealed a number of enzymes involved in salinity and oxidative stress tolerance or having herbicide-resistance activity.
متن کاملMinimal requirements in defined media for improved growth of some radio-resistant pink tetracocci.
Defined media permitting extensive growth of representative pink radio-resistant tetracocci (Micrococcus radiodurans, Micrococcus roseus, and Micrococcus radiophilus) and two controls (an ultraviolet-sensitive mutant of M. radiodurans and Micrococcus luteus) are described. Availability of Fe (especially Fe3+) proved essential for good growth, as evidenced by (i) favorable effects of hydroxamic ...
متن کاملDegradation of Pyridine by Micrococcus luteus Isolated from Soil.
An organism capable of growth on pyridine was isolated from soil by enrichment culture techniques and identified as Micrococcus luteus. The organism oxidized pyridine for energy and released N contained in the pyridine ring as ammonium. The organism could not grow on mono- or disubstituted pyridinecarboxylic acids or hydroxy-, chloro-, amino-, or methylpyridines. Cell extracts of M. luteus coul...
متن کاملGenome Sequence of Arthrobacter koreensis 5J12A, a Plant Growth-Promoting and Desiccation-Tolerant Strain
Arthrobacter koreensis 5J12A is a desiccation-tolerant organism isolated from the Nerium oleander rhizosphere. Here, we report its genome sequence, which may shed light on its role in plant growth promotion. This is believed to be the first published genome of a desiccation-tolerant plant growth promoter from the genus Arthrobacter.

BACKGROUND The present study is intended to compare and document the therapeutic flora, their remedial use, and the traditional knowledge used frequently by the residents of the Cholistan desert and Pothwar (Potohar) Plateau of Punjab, Pakistan. The old endemic remedies of these areas are diminishing due to lack of qualitative and quantitative research. METHODS The data was generated by unstr...
