A Search for Radiation-Induced Recessive Sex-Linked Lethal and Detrimental Mutations in Immature Germ Cells of the House Mouse (MUS MUSCULUS ).
نویسنده
چکیده
HE total genetic risk with respect to recessive lethal mutations in mammals can only be assessed if the mutability of sex chromosomes as well as autosomes is known. Therefore, a three-generation test was done in order to determine the incidence of recessive sex-linked lethal and detrimental mutations in mice. The frequency of autosomal recessives will be determined in subsequent experiments. This first report only concerns the radiation-induction of recessive X-linked lethal and detrimental mutations in spermatogonia and oocytes; a further paper now in progress will deal with radiation-induced recessive sexlinked lethals and detrimentals in spermatozoa and spermatids. In order to obtain a clearer picture of the overall level of genetic damage, evidence for the possible induction of other mutations besides sex-linked lethals is also presented.

Evaluation of effectiveness of some mitochondrial genes in biosystematics and phylogeographic studies of house mouse (Mus musculus ) subspecies
The identification of the efficiency of some mtDNA genes of Mus musculus species complex (house mouse) for biosystematics research was studied in this approach. Recent studies have made use of different mitochondrial genes including NADH dehydrogenase genes, cytochrome b gene, cytochrome oxidase genes, D-loop region and whole mtDNA genome to study the house mouse species. Usage of each of these...
متن کاملChromosome C-banding in Mus musculus L.1766 Strains Shows a Fixed Position for the Centromere and Variable Amounts in Different Populations
Three subspecies of Mus musculus have been recognized in Iran so far. The house mouse (genus0T 0T2TMus2T, species0T 0T2TMus musculus2T) are recognized for their highly conserved morphology and chromosomal structure, but some chromosomal characters offer accurate taxonomic markers in this species that has been shown any unambiguous diagnostic morphological traits. Among the chromosomal character...
متن کاملFaster-X adaptive protein evolution in house mice.
The causes of the large effect of the X chromosome in reproductive isolation and speciation have long been debated. The faster-X hypothesis predicts that X-linked loci are expected to have higher rates of adaptive evolution than autosomal loci if new beneficial mutations are on average recessive. Reproductive isolation should therefore evolve faster when contributing loci are located on the X c...
متن کاملThe Inheritance and Linkage Relations of a New Recessive Spotting in the House Mouse.
The chief types of spotting thus far described in the house mouse, Mus musculus, are ordinary recessive piebald spotting and dominant spotting. Dominant spotting has been shown to be lethal in the homozygous condition because of the anemia associated with it. The purpose of this paper is to describe a new recessive spotting and its linkage relations. Since this new spotting gene is very closely...
متن کاملLow diversity of t haplotypes in the eastern form of the house mouse, Mus musculus L.
In previous studies, 13 different recessive embryonic lethal genes have been associated with t haplotypes in the wild mice of the species Mus domesticus. In this communication we have analyzed five populations of Mus musculus for the presence and identity of t haplotypes. The populations occupy geographically distant regions in the Soviet Union: Altai Mountains, western and eastern Siberia, Aze...
