چکیده

| May 2014 | 480 comparable with a report from USA that showed 46% of isolates were resistant to all of conventional antibiotics.[3] Totally, 66 isolates (95.65%) were carbapenem-resistant. In the six patients, Acinetobacter was isolated from multiple sites or one site for several times. It should be mentioned that all of six patients were infected or colonized with XDR strains, died during our study. Thus, this presumption exists that in some cases death was related to Acinetobacter infection or infection had accelerated patients’ death rate. Signifi cant risk factors for colonization/infection with XDR-strains were hospitalized duration (P = 0.048), underlying disease (P = 0.016), and corticosteroid usage (P = 0.030). In this study prevalence of Acinetobacter spp. was 7.98% while in Korea was 6.6%.[4] Many investigations reported prevalence of Acinetobacter particularly in the intensive care unit (ICU) ward. Prevalence of Acinetobacter spp. in the ICU ward of a hospital in Tehran was 22.4% and was most frequently isolated organism,[5] while in our study was 71.0%. This discrepancy may be due to several factors such as the condition of patients, management of infection control programs, type of strains and antibiotic resistance pa ern of isolates that it is eff ective in increasing of survival rate of them in the environment and colonization on the body of patients.

Frequency of Nosocomial Infections with Antibiotic Resistant Strains of Acinetobacterspp. in ICU Patient

Background and Objective:Acinetobacter spp.a Gram-negative coccobacillus is increasingly reported as important cause of nosocomial infections. Multi-drug resistance (MDR) ofAcinetobacterspp., raises concerns over our ability to treat serious infections with these organisms. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and associated risk factors for infections...

Prevalence of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii from 2005 to 2016 in Switzerland

BACKGROUND We describe the prevalence of invasive carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter spp. isolated from 2005 to 2016 in different regions of Switzerland. METHODS Using the Swiss Antibiotic Resistance Centre (anresis) database that includes data from 70% of all hospitalized patients and one third of all ambulatory practitioners in Switzerland, we analysed the number of carbapenem-susceptible a...

Background and purpose: Acinetobacter spp. is a non-fermentative gram- negative bacterium involving in various nosocomial infections. During last decade increasing number of multidrug-resistant isolates of Acinetobacter spp. have been reported. This type of resistance is possibly related to efflux pumps. This research aimed at identifying the phonotypic and genotypic characteristics of efflux p...

Multidrug-Resistant Acinetobacter spp.: Increasingly Problematic Nosocomial Pathogens

Pathogenic bacteria have increasingly been resisting to antimicrobial therapy. Recently, resistance problem has been relatively much worsened in Gram-negative bacilli. Acinetobacter spp. are typical nosocomial pathogens causing infections and high mortality, almost exclusively in compromised hospital patients. Acinetobacter spp. are intrinsically less susceptible to antibiotics than Enterobacte...

Characterization and sensitivity to antibiotics of bacteria isolated from the lower respiratory tract of ventilated patients hospitalized in intensive care units.

OBJECTIVE This observational study described the characterization of bacteria isolated from the lower respiratory tract of ventilated patients hospitalized in intensive care units. The demonstration of isolated microorganism resistance to antibiotics and a time-trend analysis of infection comparing a 48-month period were also other objectives. METHOD Semi-quantitative assays of 1254 samples t...
