Crystal and Molecular Structures of Model Schiff-Mannich Bases

Structural properties of two model solid Schiff-Mannich bases: 7-[(1-{5-bromo-3[(diethylamino)methyl]-2-hydroxyphenyl}methylidyne)amino]-4-methylcoumarin and N,N -bis{5-bromo-3-[(diethylamino)methyl]salicylidene}-1,2-diaminoethane have been investigated. In both cases a neutral intramolecular O–H...N hydrogen bonding is formed with participation of the Schiff parts of the molecules only. Single crystal X-ray analysis shows that possibly equivalent hard structural parameters (bond lengths and the valence angles) of the central aromatic ring of the title Schiff-Mannich bases are hardly differentiated by the hydrogen bonding and different conformations of the Schiff and Mannich fragments.

A series of 3-substituted-4-(5-nitro-2-furfurylidene)amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazoles 3 and their Mannich bases have been synthesized. The structures of these Schiff bases and Mannich bases were confirmed on the basis of elemental analysis, H NMR and mass spectral data. The above compounds were also screened for their antifungal activity against C.albicans.
