Wicking Study of Nanostructured Titania Surfaces for Flat Heat Pipes

چکیده
We report a wicking material based on nanostructured TiO2 (NST) for the application of flat heat pipes. Heat pipes adopt wicking materials to achieve some unique functions that thermal siphons could not achieve[1], and they have found their applications as cooling systems in a wide variety of areas such as spacecraft and electronics. Different kinds of materials such as carbon nanotubes[2], nanowires[3], sintered copper[4], and micromachined channels[5, 6] have been investigated for micro heat pipes for their wicking functions. Based on titanium micromachining and surface modification techniques, we fabricated an array of pillars which carry nano/micro textured surface Our study shows that water can completely wet this nano/micro textured surface, and it’s wetting behavior on this surface follows the famous Washburn equation.

Nanoscale Roughness and Morphology Affect the IsoElectric Point of Titania Surfaces
We report on the systematic investigation of the role of surface nanoscale roughness and morphology on the charging behaviour of nanostructured titania (TiO2) surfaces in aqueous solutions. IsoElectric Points (IEPs) of surfaces have been characterized by direct measurement of the electrostatic double layer interactions between titania surfaces and the micrometer-sized spherical silica probe of ...
متن کاملA Titanium Based Flat Heat Pipe
1. ABSTRACT We are developing innovative heat pipes based on Nano-Structured Titania (NST) with a potential for high heat carrying capacity and high thermal conductivity. These heat pipes have a flat geometry as opposed to a cylindrical geometry found in conventional heat pipes. The flatness will enable a good contact with microprocessor chips and thus reduce the thermal contact resistance. We ...

Heat pipes have immense potential in the future of thermal management in electronic devices. As a passive device, they rely solely upon capillary forces to recirculate the coolant from the condenser to the evaporator via a wicking structure. In intermediate temperature heat pipes the limiting factor for heat removal is the capillary limit, which indicates the maximum recirculation rate that the...

Condensation on superhydrophobic nanostructured surfaces offers new opportunities for enhanced energy conversion, efficient water harvesting, and high performance thermal management. These surfaces are designed to be Cassie stable and favor the formation of suspended droplets on top of the nanostructures as compared to partially wetting droplets which locally wet the base of the nanostructures....
متن کاملCOMPARATIVE STUDY ON PROPERTIES OF NANOSTRUCTURED TITANIA SYNTHESIZED BY COLLOIDAL AND POLYMERIC SOLGEL ROUTES
Abstract:Nanostructured titania was synthesized by colloidal and polymeric sol-gel routes. Stable colloidal and polymeric titania sols were prepared by adjusting the proper values of the acid/alkoxide and the water/alkoxide molar ratios. The properties of sols were determined by dynamic light scattering technique and synthesized titania was characterized by thermogravimetry and differential the...
