How to preserve potency and continence in localized prostate cancer.

چکیده
Recent data show that, at 10 years of followup, overall and cancer-specific survival after RT, whether it be external beam RT (EBRT), intensity-modulated RT, brachytherapy (also called interstitial RT), or brachytherapy plus EBRT, are similar to those achieved after radical prostatectomy (RP) [5]. However, the incidence of erectile dysfunction is 43–62% at 3 years after RT [6], and pain on orgasm and haematospermia caused by brachytherapy can also affect sexual function [7]. Therefore RT does not appear to achieve the trifecta.

Prostate-specific antigen kinetics after hypofractionated stereotactic body radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer
Background: stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) has emerged as an effective treatment for localized prostate cancer. However, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) kinetics after SBRT has not been well characterized. The objective of the current study is to analyze the rate of PSA decline and PSA nadir following hypofractonated SBRT in localized prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: From 2008...
متن کاملA comprehensive review of neuroanatomy of the prostate
Although oncologic efficacy is the primary goal of radical prostatectomy, preserving potency and continence is also important, given the indolent clinical course of most prostate cancers. In order to preserve and recover postoperative potency and continence after radical prostatectomy, a detailed understanding of the pelvic anatomy is necessary to recognize the optimal nerve-sparing plane and t...
متن کاملFocal prostate cryoablation: initial results show cancer control and potency preservation.
BACKGROUND Focal prostate cryoablation is the less-than-complete ablation of the gland with ice. Known tumor is ablated aggressively, whereas contralateral prostate tissue and surrounding structures are spared. This method offers targeted local cancer control aiming at sexual potency and urinary continence preservation in patients whose prostate cancer is believed to be unilateral. PATIENTS A...
متن کاملPSA Screening in Prostate Cancer
Introduction: Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in Iranian men. PSA(prostate specific antigen) screening is a controversial issue because PSA screening leads to diagnose of patients with low risk prostate cancer who not only do not benefit from treatment but also suffer from complication caused by treatment. On the other hand, without prostate cancer screening, the rate of meta...
متن کاملAssessing the Diagnostic Value of Plasma-Free DNA in Prostate Cancer Screening
Background: Prostate cancer is the second form of cancer among men worldwide. For early cancer detection, we should identify tumors in initial stages before the physical signs become visible. The present study aims to evaluate the diagnostic value of cell-free DNA (cfDNA), its comparison with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level in prostate cancer screening and also in patients with localized ...
