چکیده

Arthroscopic injection of corticosteroids into the lining of subchondral cystic lesions in the medial femoral condyle of horses is an effective first-line treatment for this condition. It yields a similar chance of success as debridement but with less chance of the lesion enlarging and less disruption of the articular surface. Catastrophic complication following injection and extracorporeal shock wave therapy of a medial femoral condyle subchondral cystic lesion in a 14 year old Arabian mare

This report describes fibrous cyst lining injection and extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) of a medial femoral condyle (MFC) subchondral cystic lesion (SCL) resulting in catastrophic MFC fracture in an Arabian mare. The mare was presented for evaluation of a severe hind limb lameness of approximately 4 months duration. On presentation, a non-weight bearing lameness of the left hind limb w...

BIOMECHANICAL EVALUATION OF MEDIAL FEMORAL CONDYLAR SUBCHONDRAL CYSTIC LESIONS AND THE EFFECTS OF TREATMENT WITH INTERNAL FIXATION Abstract Purpose of the study: Subchondral cystic lesions (SCLs) in the medial femoral condyle are a common equine orthopedic problem

Purpose of the study: Subchondral cystic lesions (SCLs) in the medial femoral condyle are a common equine orthopedic problem occurring most commonly in the first two years of life. They are located on the weightbearing surface of the condyle and are frequently associated with lameness. While the pathophysiology of SCLs is poorly understood, they are believed to be the result of either osteochon...

OBJECTIVE To determine clinical and radiographic features of subchondral cystic lesions (SCL) of the proximal extremity of the tibia in horses that could be used to classify these lesions as being related to osteochondrosis or osteoarthritis and to evaluate results of surgical debridement. DESIGN Retrospective study. ANIMALS 12 horses with 14 SCL. PROCEDURE Medical records and radiographs...

Skeletal Tuberculosis Presenting as a Small Cystic Lesion in the Medial Femoral Condyle

Skeletal tuberculosis is an unusual disease involving bone and joints and it may have different manifestations. This report introduces a 25-year-old woman suffering from chronic knee pain without any response to conservative treatments for one year. X-ray was normal but CT-scan and MRI indicated a small lesion in medial condyle of the femur. The patient underwent percutaneous CT-guided biopsy...

Case Report An acute subchondral cystic lesion of the equine shoulder causing lameness

Subchondral bone cysts (subchondral cystic lesions or osseous cyst-like lesions) are relatively uncommon in the horse (Baxter 1996). They may be articular or extra-articular, and may, or may not, result in lameness (Baxter 1996), although most cystic lesions that contribute to lameness are articular in nature (Bramlage 1993). Horses from all breeds are susceptible, and whilst the disease has be...
