Manipulation of cold atoms using a corrugated magnetic reflector

چکیده
A corrugated magnetic reflector is realized by adding a bias field to a static magnetic mirror. This permits real-time manipulation of a cold-atom cloud on time scales down to 100 ms. We show that rotation of the bias field generates a traveling corrugation of adjustable depth and velocity. Momentum is transferred from the traveling wave to the atoms, resulting in a displacement of the cloud that depends on the wave velocity. This is a step towards a new method of manipulation in which neutral atoms could be transported across the surface by surfing along the moving wave.

Axial Corrugated Horn Antenna with Elliptical Tapering Function
An axially corrugated horn antenna with an elliptically shaped taper is proposed for satellite communication applications. This structure is a good candidate for the feed of reflectors and also for improving the electrical properties of reflector antennas. A tapering method is used to justify the horizontal location of the corrugation profile which improves the electrical performance of the pre...

Many proposals for quantum information processing require precise control over the motion of neutral atoms, as in the manipulation of coherent matter waves or the confinement and localization of individual atoms. Patterns of micron-sized wires, fabricated lithographically on a flat substrate, can conveniently produce large magnetic-field gradients and curvatures to trap cold atoms and to facili...

Cross-corrugated triangular channels increase heat transfer in heat exchangers. The mixing effect increases the heat transfer coefficient at the surfaces. In this study, the fluid flow and heat transfer in a triangular corrugated channel are modeled under two constant heat fluxes and different Reynolds numbers. In order to validate, k-ω turbulence model is used. Also, the effect of magnetic fie...

We analyze atom-surface magnetic interactions on atom chips where the magnetic trapping potentials are produced by current carrying wires made of electrically anisotropic materials. We discuss a theory for time dependent fluctuations of the magnetic potential, arising from thermal noise originating from the surface. It is shown that using materials with a large electrical anisotropy results in ...

Cassegrain Reflector Antenna Design consists of various effects caused by blockage and its effect on overall performance. The design for minimum blockage condition results in geometry that offers lower amount of blockage and increased spillover past the subreflector. To avoid this, optimized design of the antenna results in geometry that offers lower amount of spillover past the edges of the ma...
