Situated and Adaptive E-learning for Cultural Heritage

We introduce the adaptive and situated e-learning, a new e-learning model which puts emphasis on the “in site” learning, while using distance multi-site learning in a federated context to enrich the user’s experience. The system is adaptive: it is centred on the user’s needs and knowledge, in order to create specific paths, based on the choice of contents and their language. It is situated, because it is aware of the cultural object that surrounds the user, and exploits this knowledge in order to offer new concepts and instances, in such way reinforcing the learning. The infrastructure which permits to find and retrieve contents is based on the peer-to-peer and on the ontological capabilities taken from the DICE research Project. The employed technology includes autonomous agents, mobile devices and RFID.
