چکیده

The persistence length of charged linear polymers in semidilute solution must increase substantially upon addition of salt. For very long polymers the persistence length increases as the salt concentration to the 5/2 power provided this salt concentration is not too large. In deriving this scaling we correct our previous prediction in light of a recent paper by Barrat and Joanny, and in agreement with their qualitative prediction. In their recent study of the polyelectrolyte persistence length in semidilute solutions, Barrat

A Monte Carlo Study of Titrating Polyelectrolytes

ii) a exible polymer with rigid bonds and iii) a exible polymer with exible bonds. The use of a very e cient pivot algorithm has made it possible to simulate very long chains, with up to several thousand titrating groups. The results have been compared to a mean eld approximation for a rigid rod and variational results emanating from a Flory type approach. It is found that the rigid rod mean el...

Multiscale modeling of dendrimers and their interactions with bilayers and polyelectrolytes.

Recent advances in molecular dynamics simulation methodologies and computational power have allowed accurate predictions of dendrimer size, shape, and interactions with bilayers and polyelectrolytes with modest computational effort. Atomistic and coarse-grained (CG) models show strong interactions of cationic dendrimers with lipid bilayers. The CG simulations with explicit lipid and water captu...

Aggregation of flexible polyelectrolytes: Phase diagram and dynamics.

Similarly charged polymers in solution, known as polyelectrolytes, are known to form aggregated structures in the presence of oppositely charged counterions. Understanding the dependence of the equilibrium phases and the dynamics of the process of aggregation on parameters such as backbone flexibility and charge density of such polymers is crucial for insights into various biological processes ...

Aggregation of Charged Colloidal Particles

This chapter reviews the recent progress in aggregation of colloidal particles with long-range interactions, including simple colloids and polyelectrolytes. The relevant interactions between colloidal particles, including Born repulsion, van der Waals, electrostatic, structural solvation, hydrophobic hydrodynamic interactions and attraction between like-charge colloids, charge nonuniformity, an...
