Trading Monotonicity Demands versus Eciency

چکیده
The present paper deals with the learnability of indexed families L of uniformly recursive languages from positive data. We consider the in uence of three monotonicity demands and their dual counterparts to the e ciency of the learning process. The e ciency of learning is measured in dependence on the number of mind changes a learning algorithm is allowed to perform. The three notions of (dual) monotonicity re ect different formalizations of the requirement that the learner has to produce better and better (specializations) generalizations when fed more and more data on the target concept. We distinguish between exact learnability (L has to be inferred with respect to L), class preserving learning (L has to be inferred with respect to some suitably chosen enumeration of all the languages from L), and class comprising inference (L has to be learned with respect to some suitably chosen enumeration of uniformly recursive languages containing at least all the languages from L). In particular, we prove that a relaxation of the relevant (dual) monotonicity requirement may result in an arbitrarily large speed-up. However, whether or not such a speed-up may be achieved crucially depends on the set of allowed hypothesis spaces as well as of the (dual) monotonicity demands involved.

متن کاملRelative informational eciency of cash, futures, and options markets: The case of an emerging market
We study the lead±lag relationships among the spot, futures, and options markets on Hong KongÕs Hang Seng Index (HSI). The young options market experiences thin trading, and the option returns lag the cash index returns. The more mature futures market experiences active trading. Yet its lead over the cash index appears to be less than the counterparts in other countries. A possible reason is th...
متن کاملOn demand responsiveness in additive cost sharing
We propose two new axioms of demand responsiveness for additive cost sharing with variable demands. Group Monotonicity requires that if a group of agents increase their demands, not all of them pay less. Solidarity says that if agent i demands more, j should not pay more if k pays less. Both axioms are compatible in the partial responsibility theory postulating Strong Ranking, i.e., the ranking...
متن کاملKidney Exchange with Immunosuppressants∗
This paper investigates implications of introducing immunosuppressants (or suppressants) in kidney exchange problems. We begin with the standard kidney exchange model without suppressants and define two versions of the top-trading cycles (TTC) solutions satisfying Pareto efficiency. We then extend the model by introducing suppressants that make a patient compatible with any donor by relaxing im...
متن کاملThe Effect of Exchange Rate Volatility on Iran’s Bilateral Trade in Six Major Countries
The main aim of this study is to investigate the effect of exchange rate uncertainty on trade balance between Iran and countries which are major trading partner of Iran, using the EGARCH method and the ARDL model (to examine the coherency and short- and long-term dynamics of the model). The data used in this paper includes quarterly data in the period of 1995 to 2017 for the real effective exc...
