چکیده

The hydrolysis of the thorium(IV) ion in various concentrations of magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium chloride media was studied by the emf method at 25 °c. The data show that the extent of thorium hydrolysis decreases with increasing concentration and hydration energy of the medium ions. The contribution of the concentration of the medium ions to the total medium effect is higher than the contribution of their energy of hydration. The stability constants of the hydrolytic complexes Th2(0H)2+ and Th2(0H)3~+ also differ slightly from one concentration of medium to another. The obtained data a!'e in agreement with the linear free energy relationship proposed for metal ion hydrolysis.

The Effect of Calcium and Other Ions on the Autocatalytic Formation of Trypsin from Trypsinogen

Crystalline trypsinogen is completely transformed into trypsin by means of trypsin in the presence of calcium salts. The process follows the course of a pure autocatalytic unimolecular reaction. In the absence of calcium salts, the autocatalytic formation of trypsin from trypsinogen is complicated by the transformation of part of the trypsinogen into an inert protein which cannot be changed int...

Interaction of Alkaline Earth Metal Ions with Acetic and Lactic Acid in Aqueous Solutions

Interaction of alkaline earth metal (magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium) ions with acetic and lactic acid in aqueous media was investigated by C NMR spectroscopy. In the acetate systems, signals whose chemical shifts were the averages of those of the free and bound acetate ions were observed. Downfield shifts of the carboxylate carbon signals with increasing metal ion concentration indica...

Properties of Aqueous Mixtures of Pure Salts. Thermodynamics of the Ternary System: Water-Calcium Chloride-Magnesium Chloride at 25 °C

The chemical potentials of each solute in an aqueous mixture of two electrolytes have been determined for many systems. For example, the activity coefficients of both hydrochloric acid and sodium chloride in mixed aqueous solution have been derived from emf measurements [I]. The isopiestic vapor pressure method has been used [2] to determine the activity coefficients of each solute in aqueous m...

Vitamin D and magnesium absorption in man.

1. The effects of vitamin D and its hydroxylated derivatives on calcium and magnesium absorption have been examined in 47 balance studies on patients with various disorders of calcium or bone metabolism. 2. Vitamin D significantly increased the mean net absorption of calcium and also the calcium balance. The mean net absorption of magnesium was also significantly increased although the rise was...

Aluminum smelting

Hans Christian Oersted first heated potassium amalgam with aluminum chloride and produced tiny pieces of aluminum in 1825. This was twenty years after Sir Humphrey Davy first named the metal “aluminum.” Davy was the first to use electrolysis to produce samples of potassium, sodium, strontium, calcium, barium, magnesium and boron. He tried unsuccessfully for many years to produce aluminum by ele...
