Intracranial Neurenteric Cysts: Two Atypical Cases and Review of the Literature

چکیده
Clinical Presentation The first patient presented with a headache and was found to have an enlarging 6.6cm left frontal lobe cystic mass. The second presented with diplopia secondary to left third nerve palsy and was found a have 1.7cm left superior prepontine lesion. Results Both patients had the working diagnosis of arachnoid cyst. They respectively underwent a left frontal craniotomy and a transphenoidal endoscopic osteotomy for resection and fenestration of the cystic lesions. Histopathology evaluation revealed type A neurenteric cysts respectively with respiratory and gastrointestinal epithelia.

متن کاملAn Unusual Case of Large Posterior Fossa Neurenteric Cyst Involving Bilateral Cerebellopontine Angle Cisterns: Report of a Rare Case and Review of Literature
BACKGROUND Intracranial neurenteric cysts are rare cystic masses of endodermal origin lined with mucin producing low columnar or cuboidal epithelium. Approximately 141 cases have been reported so far. Most of the posterior fossa neurenteric cysts are typically small, located anteriorly to the brainstem in the midline or in the cerebellopontine angle cistern area. CASE REPORT We present a rare...
متن کاملMalignant Transformation of a Neurenteric Cyst in the Posterior Fossa Presenting with Intracranial Metastasis: A Case Report and Literature Review
Intracranial neurenteric cysts are relatively rare and almost exclusively benign. Here we present a case of an intracranial neurenteric cyst that was histologically benign in the first surgery and later demonstrated significant growth and intracranial metastasis with malignant transformation. A 47-year-old woman presented with a headache, which had gradually worsened over 1 year. Initial magnet...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical study of intracranial cysts.
Immunohistochemical characterization of 14 cases of intracranial cysts was performed. Among these 14 cases, five different types of cysts were represented; Rathke's cleft cyst (4 cases), neurenteric cyst (2 cases), colloid cyst (1 case), choroidal epithelial cyst (2 cases) and arachnoid cyst (5 cases). Immunohistochemical evaluation utilized antibodies to glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP),...
متن کاملIntracranial neurenteric cysts: imaging and pathology spectrum.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Intracranial neurenteric (NE) cysts are rare congenital lesions that may be mistaken for other, more common non-neoplastic cysts as well as cystic neoplasms. We delineate the imaging spectrum, pathologic findings, and differential diagnosis of NE cysts. METHODS History, imaging, surgical and pathologic findings were analyzed retrospectively in 18 patients with intracran...
