چکیده

The anatomy, morphology and trichome distribution on the aerial parts of Lamium truncatum Boiss. were studied in order to understand the usefulness of these characteristics for systematic purposes. L. truncatum is a Mediterranean element which grows on shady hedge banks, glades, Quercus coccifera L. macchie and forest at an altitude of 300-1650 m in the eastern part of the Mediterranean region of Turkey, western Syria, Palaestina and Israel. Some anatomical characters such as the distances of vascular bundles between the corners in the stem, the number of palisade and spongy parenchyma layer of the leaf blade, and the petiole anatomy provide information of taxonomical significance. Three main types of trichomes (peltate, capitate glandular and nonglandular) were observed on the stem, inflorescence axis, leaf and calyx surfaces of L. truncatum. Glandular trichomes were present in abundance on the inflorescence axis, calyx, abaxial side of the leaf especially on veins, and apex of the filament, but non-glandular ones were mainly situated on the leaf and stem. Moreover, notes on morphology and nutlet features of the species are given.

Stem and Leaf Anatomy of Three Taxa in Lamiaceae

Stem and leaf anatomy of Origanum rotundifolium Boiss., O. vulgare L. ssp. viride (Boiss.) Hayek, Teucrium hircanum L., belonging to Lamiaceae were characterized and compared. Some important differences were determined in the taxa. In addition, trichome diversity was investigated by light microscopy and three main types of trichomes (peltate, capitate glandular and non-glandular) were observed ...

The Uneven Rate of the Molecular Evolution of Gene Sequences of DNA-Dependent RNA Polymerase I of the Genus Lamium L

RNA polymerase type I (plastid-encoded polymerase, PEP) is one of the key chloroplast enzymes. However, the rpo genes that encode its subunits (rpoA, rpoB, rpoC1 and rpoC2) are relatively rapidly evolving sequences. The aim of this study was to investigate the rate of the molecular evolution of rpo genes and to evaluate them as phylogenetic markers on the example of the genus Lamium L. (Lamiace...

Trichome Micromorphology of Egyptian Ballota (lamiaceae) with Emphasis on Its Systematic Implication

Trichomes of 5 taxa of the genus Ballota were examined by using light and scanning electron microscopy. The indumentum shows considerable variability among different species, and therefore, affords valuable characters in delimitation of species. The characters of taxonomic interest were presence of glandular and non-glandular trichomes, number of cells (uni-, bi-, trior multi-cellular), presenc...
