Alcoholism, Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 and Cardiovascular Risk

چکیده
Main Findings: Hyperphosphatemia constitutes a major stimulus for FGF-23 secretion, together with infl ammation and reduced iron availability, either by iron defi ciency or by iron sequestration in infl ammatory diseases. FGF-23 can be expressed by the damaged liver. Alcoholism is a proinfl ammatory condition, and in alcoholics there is an increased cardiovascular risk. Preliminary data suggest that FGF23 is raised in alcoholics.

Fibroblast growth factor 23 and incident CKD in type 2 diabetes.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES High levels of fibroblast growth factor 23 are associated with accelerated progression of CKD. Whether high fibroblast growth factor 23 levels also predict incident CKD is uncertain. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS A prospective case-cohort study was conducted within the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes Trial. The analytic sample consis...
متن کاملEffect of High Intensity Interval Training on the Level of Atrial Fibrillation, Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 and Klotho Protein in Male Rats with Renal Failure
Introduction: Cardiovascular problems and atrial fibrillation is one of the most prevalent secondary consequences in hemodialysis patients. This study aimed to examine the effect of high intensity interval training on the level of atrial fibrillation, fibroblast growth factor 23 and Klotho in male rats with chronic kidney disease. Methods: In this study, 30 male rats Wistar (7-8 weeks) were ra...
متن کاملIncreased Levels of sRAGE in Diabetic CKD-G5D Patients: A Potential Protective Mechanism against AGE-Related Upregulation of Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 and Inflammation
Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) may induce cardiac remodeling in kidney disease by promoting fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) expression. Since AGEs are increased in diabetes mellitus (DM), our first aim was to evaluate the existence of any potential association between AGEs, FGF-23, inflammation, and increased cardiovascular risk in DM patients on dialysis (CKD-G5D). Secondarily, we...
متن کاملFibroblast Growth Factor-23 Fans the Flames of Heart and Kidney Failure.
SEE PAGE 829 C hronic kidney disease (CKD) promotes cardiac injury, and heart failure begets kidney injury. Although shared risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, and atherosclerosis are wellknown igniters of the combustible interaction between chronic heart and kidney diseases, identification of the accelerants that drive the full-fledged public health conflagration of “cardiorenal” dise...
متن کاملFibroblast Growth Factor-23 Helps Explain the Biphasic Cardiovascular Effects of Vitamin D in Chronic Kidney Disease
Hypovitaminosis D is highly prevalent in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Recently, vitamin D has sparked widespread interest because of its potential favorable benefits on cardiovascular disease (CVD). Evidence from clinical studies and animal models supports the existence of biphasic cardiovascular effects of vitamin D, in which lower doses suppress CVD and higher doses stimulate CVD. However, t...
