چکیده

We analyze the effect of feedback delay and channel estimation errors in a decode-and-forward (DF) relay selection scenario. Amongst all the relays that decode the source information correctly, only one relay with the best relay-to-destination (R → D) channel quality is selected. More specifically, the destination terminal first estimates the relay-destination channel state information (CSI) and then sends the index of the best relay to the relay terminals via a delayed feedback link. Due to the time varying nature of the underlying channel model, selection is performed based on the old version of the channel estimate. In this paper, we investigate the performance of the underlying selection scheme in terms of outage probability, average symbol error rate (ASER) and average capacity. Through the derivation of an ASER expression and asymptotic diversity order analysis, we show that the presence of feedback delay reduces the asymptotic diversity order to one, while the effect of channel estimation errors reduces it to zero. Finally, simulation results are presented to corroborate the analytical results.

Performance of Amplify and Forward Relays with Predicted CSI

In cooperative relay networks, Channel State Information (CSI) is estimated at receiver. The estimated CSI is sent back to the relays through feedback link. This estimated CSI is often outdated due to feedback delay and the estimated outdated CSI is used for relay selection and detection which affects the performance of the system. The outage and error rate performance of the relay selection sc...

Outage Probability Analysis of ARQ-Based DF Opportunistic Relaying with Outdated CSI

In this paper, the outage performance of automatic repeat request (ARQ) based opportunistic relaying is analyzed when the channel state information (CSI) for relay selection is outdated. The outage probability is derived in terms of correlation between SNR and outdated SNR of the channel from the selected relay to destination. It is shown that simulation results of the outage probability match ...

Network coding with diversity and outdated channel state information

Physical-layer network coding (PNC) has the potential to significantly improve the throughput of wireless networks where the channels can be modeled as additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. As extending to multiple channels, this technique requires both amplitude and phase compensation at each transmitter and will lead to inefficient systems yielding no diversity even with perfect chann...

When do cooperative networks profit from CSI

Letting nodes cooperate improves the performance of wireless networks. To organize this cooperation, many cooperative transmitters employ channel knowledge that they obtain from the destination. Such Channel State Information (CSI) feedback introduces errors and overhead whose degrading effect on the overall performance has not been consistently studied so far. Capturing this degradation, we pr...

Performance Analysis for Amplify-and-Forward Relay Selection with Outdated CSI

The impact of outdated channel state information (CSI) on the performance of relay selections, including the partial relay selection and the best relay selection, is studied, with amplify-and-forward (AF) mode cooperative systems being considered. The proposed method is analyzed by deriving the asymptotic closed-form expressions for some figures of merit such as the outage probability and the s...
