چکیده

Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms provide a very general recipe for estimating properties of complicated distributions. While their use has become commonplace and there is a large literature on MCMC theory and practice, MCMC users still have to contend with several challenges with each implementation of the algorithm. These challenges include determining how to construct an efficient algorithm, finding reasonable starting values, deciding whether the sample-based estimates are accurate, and determining an appropriate length (stopping rule) for the Markov chain. We describe an approach for resolving these issues in a theoretically sound fashion in the context of spatial generalized linear models, an important class of models that result in challenging posterior distributions. Our approach combines analytical approximations for constructing provably fast mixing MCMC algorithms, and takes advantage of recent developments in MCMC theory. We apply our methods to real data examples, and

Spatial count models on the number of unhealthy days in Tehran

Spatial count data is usually found in most sciences such as environmental science, meteorology, geology and medicine. Spatial generalized linear models based on poisson (poisson-lognormal spatial model) and binomial (binomial-logitnormal spatial model) distributions are often used to analyze discrete count data in which spatial correlation is observed. The likelihood function of these models i...

Bayesian Inference in Hidden Markov Models through Reversible Jump Markov Chain Monte Carlo

Hidden Markov models form an extension of mixture models providing a ex-ible class of models exhibiting dependence and a possibly large degree of variability. In this paper we show how reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques can be used to estimate the parameters as well as the number of components of a hidden Markov model in a Bayesian framework. We employ a mixture of zero mean no...

Generalized spatial dynamic factor models

This paper introduces a new class of spatio-temporal models for measurements belonging to the exponential family of distributions. In this new class, the spatial and temporal components are conditionally independently modeled via a latent factor analysis structure for the (canonical) transformation of the measurements mean function. The factor loadings matrix is responsible for modeling spatial...

A Bayesian Probit Model with Spatial Dependencies

A Bayesian probit model with individual effects that exhibit spatial dependencies is set forth. Since probit models are often used to explain variation in individual choices, these models may well exhibit spatial interaction effects due to the varying spatial location of the decision makers. That is, individuals located at similar points in space may tend to exhibit similar choice behavior. The...

Spatial Dynamic Factor Analysis

A new class of space-time models derived from standard dynamic factor models is proposed. The temporal dependence is modeled by latent factors while the spatial dependence is modeled by the factor loadings. Factor analytic arguments are used to help identify temporal components that summarize most of the spatial variation of a given region. The temporal evolution of the factors is described in ...
