Towards a Judgmental Reconstruction of Logical Relation Proofs

چکیده
Tait’s method (a.k.a. proof by logical relations) is a powerful proof technique frequently used for showing foundational properties of languages based on typed lambda-calculi. Historically, these proofs have been difficult to formalize in proof assistants with weak meta-logics, such as Twelf. Logical relations are notoriously difficult to define judgmentally. In this paper, we present and discuss a Twelf proof of weak normalization for System F making use of higher-order encodings. We exhibit a modular technique on how to formalize proofs of this kind, and make explicit all logical principles that one needs to trust in order believe in the proof.

متن کاملExtensional Normalization in the Logical Framework with Proof Irrelevant Equality
We extend the Logical Framework by proof irrelevant equality types and present an algorithm that computes unique long normal forms. The algorithm is inspired by normalization-by-evaluation. Equality proofs which are not reflexivity are erased to a single object ∗. The algorithm decides judgmental equality, its completeness is established by a PER model.
متن کاملEecient Representation and Validation of Logical Proofs
This report describes a framework for representing and validating formal proofs in various ax-iomatic systems. The framework is based on the Edinburgh Logical Framework (LF) but is optimized for minimizing the size of proofs and the complexity of proof validation, by removing redundant representation components. Several variants of representation algorithms are presented with the resulting repr...
متن کاملTowards a Dialogic Interpretation of Dynamic Proofs
The main result presented in this paper concerns a dialogic or game-theoretical interpretation of dynamic proofs. Dynamic proofs in themselves do not form a demonstration of the derivability of their last formula from a given premise set. Apart from the proof, such a demonstration requires a specific metalevel argument. In a natural and appealing form, the metalevel argument is phrased in terms...
متن کاملA non-judgmental reconstruction of drunken logic
We investigate the extension of previous work by Krishnaswami et al. in [6] on Handwaving Logic, a logic that can be effectively modeled by Fairtlough and Mendler’s Lax Logic [4], towards trying to achieve a reasonable formalization of ”drunken logic.” More advanced formalizations of drunken logic fail to be modeled effectively by lax logic, and we argue that much more study deserves to be paid...
