Chemical Characterization of Siderophores
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Siderophores are divided to 2 main structural groups: hydroxamates and catecholates (Drechsel et al. 1995). Hydroxamate siderophores are produced both by bacteria and fungi, while catecholates are reported to the produced only by bacteria (Messenger and Ratledge, 1985). A third group of siderophores the carboxylate (= complexone) type has been reported to be produced exclusively by fungi belonging to order Mucorales (Zygomycotina), and two bacteria viz. Rhizobium meliloti and Staphylococcus hyicus (Rhizobactin and Staphyloferrin, Smith et al. 1985 and Meiwes et al. 1990, respectively).

Production of Non-Ribosomal Peptide Synthetase (NRPS)- Dependent Siderophore by Aeromonas Isolates
Background: Aeromonas species are Gram-negative ubiquitous bacteria, facultative anaerobic rods that infect both invertebrates and vertebrates. Various fish species develop hemorrhagic disease and furunculosis due to Aeromonas spp. Aeromonas strains generate certain active compounds such as siderophores, which are the final products of non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) activity. The prese...
متن کاملSiderophore and Its Applications in the Field of Bioenvironmental Researches
Iron, one of the essential micronutrients, is needed for electron transport and metabolic processes in almost all living organisms. The ferric form (Fe3+) of iron is insoluble in nature and inaccessible at physiological pH (7.35–7.40). Under iron-limited conditions, metal-chelating agents such as siderophores are synthesized by many bacteria and a few fungi. Siderophores have a high affinity fo...
متن کاملThe siderophore yersiniabactin binds copper to protect pathogens during infection
Bacterial pathogens secrete chemically diverse iron chelators called siderophores, which may exert additional distinctive functions in vivo. Among these, uropathogenic Escherichia coli often coexpress the virulence-associated siderophore yersiniabactin (Ybt) with catecholate siderophores. Here we used a new MS screening approach to reveal that Ybt is also a physiologically favorable Cu(II) liga...
متن کاملIn vitro characterization of salmochelin and enterobactin trilactone hydrolases IroD, IroE, and Fes.
The iroA locus encodes five genes (iroB, iroC, iroD, iroE, iroN) that are found in pathogenic Salmonella and Escherichia coli strains. We recently reported that IroB is an enterobactin (Ent) C-glucosyltransferase, converting the siderophore into mono-, di-, and triglucosyl enterobactins (MGE, DGE, and TGE, respectively). Here, we report the characterization of IroD and IroE as esterases for the...
متن کاملCoordination Chemistry of Microbial Iron Transport
This Account focuses on the coordination chemistry of the microbial iron chelators called siderophores. The initial research (early 1970s) focused on simple analogs of siderophores, which included hydroxamate, catecholate, or hydroxycarboxylate ligands. The subsequent work increasingly focused on the transport of siderophores and their microbial iron transport. Since these are pseudo-octahedral...
