A Survey on Software-defined Networking Concepts and Architecture

چکیده
Software defined networking (SDN) has been the buzzword among networking professionals since the last few years. The three tiered architecture of SDN promises to simplify the network management. Unfortunately, a significant amount of research that is going on in this field is focused on datacenter networks. The societal impact that this technology can bring about mostly in developing countries has not been thought of. After a brief survey on SDN we were able to outline the concept, architecture, implementation and applications for software defined networking. An extensive survey was made with respect to the need to handle the issues of network traffic, inability to scale, virtualization, and low-performance of current network architecture by adopting SDN, which decouples the network control and forwarding functions, thus enabling the network control to become directly programmable. An analysis on the research undertaken by various scientists showcased the importance of SDN and its advantages over the traditional architecture.

In recent years, Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) have emerged as one of the most active areas in the field of technology to provide a wide range of services, including road safety, passenger's safety, amusement facilities for passengers and emergency facilities. Due to the lack of flexibility, complexity and high dynamic network topology, the development and management of current Vehicular A...

The pull of Software-Defined Network- ing (SDN) is magnetic. There are few in the networking community who have escaped its impact. As the benefits of network visibility and network device programmability are discussed, the question could be asked as to who exactly will benefit? Will it be the network operator or will it, in fact, be the network intruder? As SDN devices and systems hit the mark...

While the novelty of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) — the separation of network control and data planes — is appealing and simple enough to foster massive vendor support, the resulting impact on the security of communication networks infrastructures and their management may be tremendous. The paradigm change affects the entire networking architecture. It involves new IP-based management comm...

متن کاملThe path towards an Internet’s SON: Service Oriented Networking
The work described in this Ph.D. thesis deals with the evolution of the current Internet architecture towards a communication model suited for dealing with services rather then with nodes and processes. The work introduces some practical use cases to describe the current “as a service“ orientation of many network applications, and the required new degrees of flexibility in the resources managem...
