The present study aimed to detect and control SRB activities using a very rapid detectable culture medium and reduction of potential economic loss in the petroleum sector. This study is an attempt to isolate SRB from sea water by rapid and sensitive culture media and to control their effect using eight commercial biocides (Aldehydes and quaternaries). The present work studies the effect of composition of four recommended culture media (Postgate medium B, Starkey, Baar's and API media), besides, the presence of metal coupons in these media to enhance the growth of sessile SRB. Furthermore, the present study evaluates the efficiency of filtration of these culture media on the growth of SRB. The results revealed that modified Postgate medium B was the recommended medium for SRB growth. In addition, the results showed that rapid and abundant growth of SRB when the metal coupons were immersed in the culture media which were deficient in iron. The unfiltered culture media improved the SRB growth. The growth of SRB was depressed by 15 ppm of the commercial quaternaries rather than 20 ppm of the aldehydes. [E. A. Ghazy, M.G. Mahmoud, M. S. Sulfurous Analysis of Bioelectricity Generation from Sulfate-reducing Bacteria (SRB) in a Microbial Fuel Cell
The current importance of energy emphasizes the use of renewable resources (such as wastewater) for electricity generation by microbial fuel cell (MFC). In the present study, the native sulfate-reducing bacterial strain (R.gh 3) was employed simultaneously for sulfurous component removal and bioelectricity generation. In order to enhance the electrical conductivity and provision of a compatible...

Background and Aims: Due to the increasing problems and side effects of the use of chemical antibacterial agents as well as antibiotic resistance, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of aloe vera gel on biofilm gene expression of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) isolated from patients with periodontal infection by Real time-PCR method. Materials and Methods: For this study, 100 individu...
متن کاملCRUDE GLYCEROL AS SUBSTRATE FOR SULFATE-REDUCING BACTERIA FROM A MATURE OIL FIELD AND ITS POTENTIAL IMPACT ON SOURING
Crude glycerol (CG) is an abundantly available and cheap by-product from biodiesel production. Value-added applications for CG are highly wanted by industry and several processes such as the use of CG for enhanced oil recovery have been proposed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sulfide production of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) indigenous to oil reservoirs using CG as substrate. Th...
متن کاملMetabolic associations with archaea drive shifts in hydrogen isotope fractionation in sulfate-reducing bacterial lipids in cocultures and methane seeps.
Correlation between hydrogen isotope fractionation in fatty acids and carbon metabolism in pure cultures of bacteria indicates the potential of biomarker D/H analysis as a tool for diagnosing carbon substrate usage in environmental samples. However, most environments, in particular anaerobic habitats, are built from metabolic networks of micro-organisms rather than a single organism. The effect...

Under seasonally fluctuating redox conditions in sediment of Kiel Bay (eastern Baltic Sea), viable counts (MPN) of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) ranged between 4 X 102 and 7 X 104 cm-3 These MPN appeared fairly independent of ambient redox potentials and followed peaks of phytoplankton productivity in the water column with a time lag of 2 to 3 wk. The relative proportions of SRB using acetate...
