چکیده

Monitoring of mine subsidence by means of classical methods such as optical levelling or Global Positioning System (GPS) surveys can reveal deformations with sub-millimetre to subcentimetre precision for localised areas. However, to provide data on a reasonably dense two-dimensional (2D) benchmark grid are costly and time-consuming for all but the smallest areas. Moreover, a regular re-survey of a mining region may be required, and a retrospective study of a specific deformation event is usually not possible since monitoring networks are often implemented after the major events have occurred.

Differential Radar Interferometry and Its Application in Monitoring Underground Coal Mining-induced Subsidence

Ground subsidence due to underground coal mining threatens the safety of surface infrastructure such as buildings, roads, bridges, powerlines and telecommunication cables, and can cause environmental problems such as water pollution, cessation of stream flow, and so on. Monitoring the spatial distribution of surface deformation may be helpful for land-use planning, land reclamation, safety and ...

Integrated Space Geodetic Techniques for Monitoring Ground Subsidence Due to Underground Mining

Ground subsidence monitoring is of paramount importance in relation to the safety and efficiency of underground mining operations. Moreover, in established coal fields in eastern Australia, it has become harder and harder to select underground minesites which can avoid major engineering structures both on the surface and underground (highways, bridges, buildings, abandoned workings of old under...

Radar Interferometric Analysis of Mining Induced Surface Subsidence Using Permanent Scatterer

We apply the permanent scatterer (PS) technique to interferometric ERS SAR observations to analyse the surface subsidence induced by hard coal mining activities at the ”Prosper-Haniel” mine (Ruhr region, Germany). Underground mining causes extensive subsidence of serveral meters and typically high subsidence rates at the earth‘s surface. We show that this approach is applicable for the measurem...

Monitoring a Large and Complex Land Subsidence in Coal Mining Areas with a Small-baseline Interferogram Stacking Technique

China is the world’s largest coal-producing country and mining-related land subsidence happens almost in every coal mining area. In north-west China, land subsidence in coal mining areas is mainly caused by underground mining activities and uncontrolled burnings of subsurface coal seam. As Hoffmann (2004) reported, burning coal-seams can result in extensive subsidence of several meters and typi...

Application of a Backfilling Method in Coal Mining to Realise an Ecologically Sensitive “Black Gold” Industry

China, as the largest coal-producing and -consuming country in the world, is highly dependent on its coal industry, or “Black Gold” industry, for the national energy and economy. The consequent environmental crises, however, have persisted for decades, and the most serious effect is surface subsidence induced by underground mining. Underground coal excavation in China has ignored this problem f...
