چکیده
Results | Four groups of drugs continue to be associated with DIAM (Table 1): nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antibiotics, immunosuppressiveimmunomodulatory (IS-IM), and antiepileptic drugs.1 Prior exposure to the associated drug was present in 26% to 35% of cases (Table 1). The interval between exposure and meningitis ranged from minutes to 5 months (Table 1). Most patients presented with headache, fever, meningismus, and mental status changes (Table 2). Underlying systemic disorders were often present, particularly systemic lupus ery-

The challenge of drug-induced aseptic meningitis.
Several drugs can induce the development of aseptic meningitis. Drug-induced aseptic meningitis (DIAM) can mimic an infectious process as well as meningitides that are secondary to systemic disorders for which these drugs are used. Thus, DIAM constitutes a diagnostic and patient management challenge. Cases of DIAM were reviewed through a MEDLINE literature search (up to June 1998) to identify p...
متن کاملA Differential Diagnosis of Drug-Induced Aseptic Meningitis
A septic meningitis refers to a nonbacterial inflammation of the leptomeninges.1 Viruses are the most common cause of aseptic meningitis, and the most common viruses that cause aseptic meningitis are enteroviruses. Drug-induced aseptic meningitis is rare but probably more common than the literature would suggest; therefore, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of aseptic meningit...
متن کاملA Rare Complication of Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole: Drug Induced Aseptic Meningitis
Drug induced aseptic meningitis is a rare but challenging diagnosis, most commonly reported with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics. Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole is a sulfonamide that is widely used in clinical practice for the treatment and prophylaxis of various infections. Drug induced aseptic meningitis, when seen with trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, occurs predominantly i...
متن کاملCetuximab induced aseptic meningitis.
We report a 67-year-old man with recurrent advanced oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma who developed aseptic meningitis, with first symptoms arising approximately 9hours after the first administration of cetuximab, and review the literature to identify key signs and symptoms of this condition. Cetuximab is a monoclonal antibody targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor which has been ra...
متن کاملTrimethoprim-induced aseptic meningitis in an adolescent male.
Drug-induced aseptic meningitis attributable to trimethoprim alone has only rarely been documented in the literature. A previously healthy adolescent male presented to our hospital with recurrent headaches, photophobia, and meningismus after serially starting and stopping trimethoprim. Cerebrospinal fluid studies revealed elevated white blood cell counts with a polymorphonuclear predominance. T...
